Start your city highlights tour from just underneath Akershus Castle and Fortress. View the modern landmark of the City Hall and travel past the Parliament, National Theatre, and Royal Residence to Holmenkollen Hills from where there are excellent views. At Vigeland Sculpture Park, take a guided walk and study this fascinating ‘wonder-world’ of human figures in stone, iron and bronze. The artist, Gustav Vigeland, never explained these works, leaving the interpretation to each beholder.
Leaving the Park, head towards the peninsula of Bygdøy, where the Viking Ship Museum is located. Visit the Museum’s three Viking ships and be amazed at the incredible craftsmanship displayed. The ‘Gokstad’ is a classic Viking ship, while the ‘Oseberg’, which was dug out in 1904, is richly adorned and was probably used as a pleasure boat. The Museum holds a collection of sleds, implements and gold and silver jewellery found with the ships.
Afterwards, travel past the pleasure boat harbour and glimpse the charming, little castle ‘Oscarshall’, built in the 19th century by the Swedish-Norwegian king, Oscar I.

Norwegians are justifiably proud of their railway history. Parts of some rail stretches are no longer in use for regular traffic, however some of these have been carefully maintained and are now used for veteran trains.
Your journey begins with a coach drive to Vikersund, where you’ll board a veteran train for an hour-long train ride at a top speed of approximately 18 miles per hour. You’ll pass a varied landscape of forests and farms as well as the station buildings, which are part of the Krøderbanen Foundation. At Krøderen Station. stop off at the little shop selling memorabilia and exhibits, before rejoining your coach for the return journey to Oslo.

Oslo, with its superb location, offers unique opportunities on and around its fjord which stretches almost into the city centre. Discover the scenery on a traditional wooden boat, fully restored to its former glory. You’ll sail past numerous islands, including Hovedøya and the Dyna Lighthouse, through narrow inlets and into sheltered bays so that you can capture the capital on camera from different angles.
The boat passes close to the peninsula of Bygdøy, housing many interesting museums as well as beaches such as Huk Bay. See the Maritime Museum with its veteran sailing ships moored outside, and the impressive Fram Museum, housing the polar ship of the same name.
During your cruise, a local Norwegian snack of shrimps will be offered, accompanied by a cool drink.

Cradled between forest-clad hills with a number of islands spread out in the fjord, Oslo is a vibrant city centred around a harbour and guarded by a castle. This is an eclectic place of traditional timber houses, stately neo-Classical buildings and the latest in modern architecture.
In 1624, the town was completely destroyed by fire and King Christian IV decided to rebuild the city under the walls of the fortress of Akershus. Your walking tour starts here, passing the statue of Franklin D. Roosevelt and the city’s modern landmark - the City Hall.
Take a closer look at the National Theatre and the Royal Palace, before turning down main street, Karl Johan and passing the University of Oslo and the Ibsen Museum. Visit the Nobel Peace Centre, inaugurated in 2005, and whose mission is to keep the spirit of Alfred Nobel’s last will and testament alive.

Set in a rural oasis, the Hadeland Glassworks is one of Norway’s popular tourist attractions. See the glass blowers demonstrate their extraordinary skills forming glowing, molten glass into the most beautiful shapes. Visit the Glass Museum with its unique collection of over 700 pieces of glassware and browse around the vast shop filled with glass of all shapes and colours.
On the return journey, you’ll follow the main road across the fertile plain, Ringerike, and then climb uphill to Sollihøgda before descending towards Oslo once more.

Travelling to Vigeland Sculpture Park, pass the Akershus Castle, Parliament and down one of Oslo's two main boulevards. You will see the City Hall, National Theatre and the Royal Palace. Continue through Oslo’s residential districts with their colourful wooden houses, and into the Homenkollen Hills, with wonderful views over the city.
Vigeland Sculpture Park, once a source of controversy, is now regarded as one of Oslo’s favourite attractions. Your guided walk will visit the stone, iron and bronze sculptures of Gustav Vigeland. Over a period of 30 years, Vigeland created 200 sculptures, with a 55-foot granite monolith carved with 121 figures as the park’s centrepiece.

Setting off from the pier, you’ll enjoy a drive to the small town of Drøbak, located south of Oslo and home to approximately 3,000 people.
During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to wander around the charming market square and the streets surrounded by old wooden houses. You’ll also enjoy a visit to the small Christmas souvenir shop, which sells an array of Christmas decorations. The local post office of Drøbak is said to be owned by Julenissen (the Norwegian Father Christmas Gnome) and receives more than 250,000 Christmas letters from all over the world. You may decide to send a greeting to friends and relatives with an official Christmas postmark.
Afterwards, you’ll head back to Oslo, enjoying a short panoramic city sightseeing tour, before returning to the port.

Enjoy a short drive to the Bygdøy peninsula, where the Norsk Folkemuseum is located. Upon arrival, follow your guide as you embark on a fascinating walk through the open-air museum. The museum features 150 authentic buildings that represent different national regions and eras. You’ll learn the history and visit some of the houses, which have been specially decorated for Christmas in the old traditional way. Christmas decorations did not arrive into Norway until the late 17th century and were very simple, compared to today’s modern decorations.
The Christmas theme continues throughout the museum, with handicraft stalls selling typical souvenirs and Norwegian Christmas handicrafts. Enjoy some free time to browse the stalls and perhaps purchase a drink or snack in the café. You may also be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the traditional folk dancing or choir singing.
Afterwards, you’ll take the return drive to Oslo, enjoying a short photo stop en-route at the Holmenkollen Hills, before arriving at the port.
