Caribbean Transatlantic

About the cruise

On your journey to the balmy shores of the Caribbean call into the capital of Madeira, Funchal, with its abundance of natural delights and picturesque backdrop of imposing mountains and deep valleys. Known for its mild weather and fine wines, the only way to fully appreciate Madeira is to visit one of its flower gardens.

A large dash of French chic makes St. Bart’s feel more like Antibes than Antigua. Climb up to Grand Fonds for an overview of the island then descend to the delightful little town of Gustavia to sip pastis, shop for designer fashions or dine in one of several superb restaurants. The air in Grenada is fragrant with the scents of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla – giving it its nickname, the ‘Spice Island’. Ashore, you will find St. George, the capital, is as much a treat for the eyes as the nose. Stroll along the almost circular inner lagoon with its historic warehouses and homes. Stop for a chilled beer before climbing over the hill to the other side of town, with its excellent museum and busy market.

Just a few miles off the coast of South America, Margarita Island is Venezuela’s Caribbean paradise. So, in addition to splendid beaches and magnificent bathing, you can feel a distinctive Spanish accent. The food is terrific, the ambience laid back and – as you might expect – the margaritas are second-to-none. With its traditional, Dutch-style gabled houses painted in shades of lemon, aqua and raspberry, Curaçao is quite possibly the prettiest Caribbean port. Stroll across the unique Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge for the best views. Stop by Chobolobo Mansion to sample of the island’s most famous export, the orange-flavoured Curaçao liqueur.

The fiercely beautiful landscape of Aruba is the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable day ashore. The famously hospitable community will be certain to make you feel at home, as you explore the island’s bizarre combination of beautiful beaches with sapphire blue waters and gnarled, other-worldly divi-divi trees. And finally sail to Montego Bay and disembark for your overnight flight back to the UK, arriving on Sunday 16 November.
