Hi Alan & Mary,

I think we are port side too, midship. I shall look over the side and raise my glass to you.

Please explain what you mean by 'All sorts of things happen on a maiden cruise'

My partner is relatively new to cruising and wants to see Venice before global warming floods the city. We thought this trip would therefore combine two firsts, besides we like big ships.

Welcome all to the thread.

Hmm a balcony is looking more appealing, all the C deck ones are taken so I might go with a guarntee one. I keep reading peoples post about how amazing the sail in to Venice is and I would love a balcony just for that alone.

Hi Mee Mee

We have also upgraded to a balcony today R deck. We have done the Arcadia and Ventura maiden (both inside) but after being on Arcadia this week we enjoyed the balcony so much we thought we would treat ourselves.

I did say to capt n Bob that the air conditioning (in our cabin) never worked on the ventura maiden which was unbearable, so do want to risk that again.

We already know a few people on this cruise so I reckon the CC meet will be one of the biggest ever.

Hi Valerie

I have been to a couple of very well attended meets so it will be good if this one is the biggest to date.

We decided on the balcony in the end because we felt as it was just the two of us we would like some private outdoor space. When we go as a larger family group our feet barely touch the ground but when on our own we have a lot more relax time ideal for balcony use. And we are set on breakfast on the balcony for sail in to Venice.

I've never been to Venice or sailed in but I hope it is not like say Madeira where one side of the ship gets the approach view and the other side gets the sea view.  I stand to be corrected but your balcony view may only work if it is on the appropriate side.

Hi Mee Mee

they say that you get the view going in or leaving so its either breakfast or g & t don't care which, I believe they say you should see going in if starboard (which we are) but someone who has been before can correct me.

I know, we had asked our TA which side would give us the best view into Venice but they couldn't tell us as it depends were and which way the ships are in port. Looking at an ariel view of Venice I think you will get a view which ever side you are on for the sail in but it may be better on one side than the other. We will see if its not that good we will do a dash up to the decks hence benefit of being high up on A deck.
