I have seen recommendations on the forums to book up speciality dining on the first day.  Do you get a preview of the cruise menus. I'd hate to pay a supplement, only to find I'm missing out on something really yummy.

Speciality restaurants will have a rotating menu so you can ask to see them. As for the main restaurant you can normally only see the next day's menus - I have never known the whole cruise's menus to be available at the start of the cruise. Most passengers would not want that as it would spoil the nightly "surprise"

You could always ask the restaurant manager - the woest he can say is no.

Thanks David

I'm not sure we will be eating in the speciality restaurants.  Why pay extra if the standard food is as good as I hear?  I think we'll wait and see each day's menu, and decide whether we want that or the buffet.  (Is there a buffet option every night?)

With the low supplement pp it really is not a waste of money at the Select Dining venues, even if there is something "scrummy" on the main restaurant menus.

Treat the Speciality restaurants as special occasions - perhaps a tie in with leaving a memorable port, by dining al fresco, or an opportunity to be "just the two of you" on a significant date for you both.  Also, booking for a smart casual night will mean you won't miss the Gala dinners on some formal nights.

Great advice Derek.  I'll bear it in mind.

Yes there is a buffet every night but it is themed, Chinese, Italian, Indian etc. The Indian one is very popular so they issue tickets for that (no charge), the others you just go if you feel like it. However if you are on club dining it would be common courtesy to let your table companions and waiters know that you will not be coming so they are not waiting for you.

Thanks Brian.

We've decided to go Freedom dining (sorry Derek - I know you hate it).  We are cruising the Fjords next June (Azura 007) and felt the flexibility would give is the best chance of seeing the Fjord on the evening cruises.  It's our first cruise, so we hope we've made the right decision.

Hi, if you follow the link below you will see an example of Ventura's main dining menus (similar to all ships in the fleet).

Also on there are some examples of the White Room - and as Derek said, lovely for a special occasion.

Wow POSHBoon,

Those menus look amazing!

Now I understand the advice I've seen which says eat too much earlier in the day.

Can the speciality restaurants really top that?
