Oh no I'm really worried now - I have the usual black cocktail dress, but I have also splashed out on 2 quite expensive, coloured cocktail dresses (I'm new to cruising).

One is red and the other is a champagne colour, both with black accessories though.  My husband will be co-ordinating his bow tie and cummerbund to match my dress colours - will we look out of place on formal nights?  I would hate to think I've wasted my money

There is no rule saying you must wear Black and white --wear your Champagne coloured dress with black accessories ------

They are hardly likely to make you walk the plank --it is your holiday -Wear what you want --only if you wear red or yellow --most people say you want to be noticed .

Despite some remarks, as I say wear what you like but just try, if you can to fit in, if you can't as Flora says it won't matter.. really it won't.

It sounds like your outfits are stunning and you will look gorgeous. Which cruise are you on?

Black and white is normally more supported for those who like the ballroom dancing.  I have a black dress with splashes of white or may wear a black dress with white wrap but i think anything dark and formal is ok.

Enjoy your first cruise.

I agree with the above comment about adding some white accessories to a black long or cocktail dress, thats what ladies can do on b & w night. I have a black evening bag with a small white flower attached, and a sheer white shawl worn with long black dress. Plus a bracelet perhaps of ebony and ivory for example. Don't agree its mainly woman who ballroom dance, nearly every woman will be making the effort , and very few are dancers.

jhall

To add, I would save the black dress for b & w night, and just source a white accessory. hubby ok in his tux as per usual with black tie.
