We are booked on p901 Artemis Amazon cruise in January and were surprised to find no excursions available to the opera house in Manaus. Friends had said that the evening opera outing there had been a highlight of their trip. Anyone have any idea why no trips???

Nothing on P001 either.  Perhaps it is just closed for the season. The English National Opera, for example, has nothing happening in London in April 2010.

We were there in Nov 2006.  There is not a full schedule in the opera house, so there may not have been a performance during your stay, there was not one when we were there.  I think the opera house has a website.

The Opera House is well within walking distance from where you will be docked so if like us you just want to see it inside and out it will only take you a short while.  Have a great time which I am certain you will.

Past Cruises: Artemis: Amazon 2006, Arcadia: Panama Canal 2008, Artemis: Med 2009.

Future Cruise: Arcadia J50 2010

When we went their was  program on which I think was just for the cruise ship and 10 coaches went that night and it is very nice inside, walking at night to I would not but we did late morning. Whe we got off the ship and walked to the shoping area and stoped and looked at a ring in shop window a man came out and said his other shop was better and a taxi would take us all free  well their were 6 of us and he tried for alarge taxi but no luck so we went in 2 taxis and he said a large one would bring us back, well 20 mins later we stoped at a large shoping area and the zoo was next door and when we arrived the other taxi was their and he said we may stay 4 hours, we had a drink around the zoo which was also free and never did go in this mans shop and the taxi brough us back to port. What a great free day

It's amazing how good some people can be! Thanks for the information. We've booked a couple of morning tours in Manaus so will probably be walking in the heat after lunch to see the opera house.

The best sight to see in Manaus is the meeting of the waters.

Hi all

I am on P001 as well.  I have tried looking up the opera house in Manaus on the internet, and found a site http://www.manausonline.com/musica_opera.asp  It seems as though they only decide their programme and publish details about a month beforehand, and don't have things on all the time apart from in the Festival season in April.  But as we are there on a Saturday night, we may get lucky.  Apparently you can also email taingressos@culturamazonas.am.gov.br to try to get details of what is on at the Opera House, so I may try doing that in December.  I agree that it would make a trip to Manaus quite special.  The Opera House looks fantastic from the pictures on the website.

Hope this helps

Michele
