| Hi wonder if anyone can help. My husband and I are going to be visiting Grand Turk on the Ventura in a couple of weeks' time. We are on a standby list for an excursion but wondered if anyone could give me some suggestions/tips on the assumptions that we do not manage to go on the chukka 4 x 4 trip. By the way we are not into scuba or snorkeling. Any help would be appreciated Jen

Just take short walk out of the cruise terminal past the government buildings (!) to governor's beach, or you can get a cab for a couple of dollars each. Only about 20 mins walk (you can't walk along the beach because of the port area) - you can see it from the ship.
The organised trip when we went wanted £25 for an excursion to there - well they did include a drink and use of snorkels, and a sun bed. Oh what super value! The soft sand is lovely, the water superb.

| Grand Turk misses out on P&O excursions Suleiman the Magnificent - the Lawgiver (reigned 1520-66); Sultan of the Osman and the Turks, High Caliph, King of Kings, Emperor of the Rum, Keeper and Protector of the Holy Places, Keeper of Men's Necks, etc, etc., should have booked on-line before he left! Amazing to think that the same dynasty (Osman) lasted circa 625 years, expiring in 1924!

| Am I missing a trick or something? Surely the P&O ships dock at the Carnival/ Government built complex where there is an excellent beach with lots of sunbeds and parasols, a swimming pool area, restaurant and a few shops. If you can't get on a tour you could at least spend a day on the beach. Returning to the ship for meals/refreshments is easy. As far as I am aware, the island is flat as a pancake with few interesting features. However, some wealthy Americans have homes there, so maybe there is scope for people watching, etc.

| Thanks to all who have made comments. Believe it or not I have not had much time to research Grand Turk so every bit of information is helpful. Reassuring to know that we are not going to miss anything by not going on an excursion. Jen

I agree,we just walked of the ship through the new shopping area and hotel and spent the day relaxing on the most beautiful white sand and swimming 50yds from the ship.it was the most relaxing day of the cruise with no pressure from locals to take a taxi or buy their goods,I would love to return there, so just relax yourselves, without worrying about trips.I was on the Arcadia and it was the first time both she and the captain had been there, the only reason we went was because the ship was 24hrs late sailing due to a delayed Gatwick flight and we could not make our offical port of Nassau.but there were not many complaints after spending a day on Grand Turk.

| Do not worry if you cannot get a P&O tour. As others have said, there is plenty to do within a short distance from the ship. The beach is very nice and there are shops, restaurants, etc. in the other direction. If you get the opportunity, go and swim with the stingrays.

| We were in Grand Turk last week on Emerald Princess, It is a very small island Margaritaville is the complex at the cruise stop, all new shops and bars, a very good beach the best on the island, For less than $10 you can get a cab into "town" 3 or 4 tourist shops and a few picturesque clapboard buildings, much of the island was flattend by a hurrican last year and has not been re-built

| We went with P&O last January to Grand Turk and agree that where you get off the ship there is a beautiful beach, shops, swimming pool and restaurant. You will have a great time just lazing about there.
