We are interested if anyone has done the P&O 'Dominica's Favorites' trip which goes to Tralfalgar falls and the Emerald Pool or the 'Nature's Hidden Treasures' trip which does the Twin Falls and a Carib Indian eco village.

The first trip will give us time to wander around the port in the afternoon, but the other one sounds interesting as well.

Not a great deal at the port as I recall. Definitely a place to do a trip of some sort, a true natural paradise.

I have done both of these trips in the past. preferred the first one because it was more leisurely at the Falls and Emerald Pool.  On the second one the Emerald pool was rushed and it was later and you did not get the same effect!

I agree - do a trip in Dominica, apart from a small market the port is nothing to write home about.

When I was cruising with my mum we did the Layou River drive and that was good.  Last time in Dominica my friend and I did the River Tubing, which was fantastic-not for the faint hearted.  We have tried tubuing sice - in Grenada-but it was a let down after Dominica.

Whatever you do enjoy

Have done the first tour to the Emerald Pool and Trafalgar Falls.  Really enjoyed the trip.  It was a really wet day when we were there but, for us, getting soaked to the skin added to the experience!!

Dominica is one of my favourite islands due to the rainforest and scenery but not a lot going on at the port itself apart from a market where we bought some spices so a trip of some kind is advisable.

We did the Trafalgar Falls and The Emerald Pool trip last December, but we went with the excellent local guides who were all waiting about 2 minutes walk from the ship. We saved a lot of money and had as much time as we liked at The Emerald Pool, instead of being tied to the coach itinerary. Our guide was called James and he was a local schoolteacher, and full of fascinating information.

We then had a tour of the island on the way back to the ship and stopped at his Granny's house to deliver her medicine. She made us a delicious Lime drink.

The other posters are quite correct that there is nothing much to see in the town, but there is a nice hotel with a cool veranda where you can sit and have a drink. I think it's called The Fort Hotel.

I can't agree that there is nothing to see in Roseau. A short(ish) walk from the pier is the Botanical Gardens.

These are well worth a visit and some days you can find a local cricket team playing there.
If you are feeling energetic, take Jack's Walk (jack's steps) for some wonderful views of the town and your cruise ship.

Another option that we thoroughly enjoyed was the whale and dolphin watching. Unfortunately a ship tour but when we went we saw nine whales and many more dolphins.
With a drink in hand the scenery in the background and dolphins chasing you it felt quite magical.

Definately a trip to remember.

As I recall the Botanical gardens & small market were quite a way up the hill, we could see the ship way down below.
