| I always wondered about this, not so much because it appeals to me but more because ever since we've been cruising just about every preconception we had before we started (usually given by those who've never been) has been wrong. But I've never seen any of the officers dining with passengers - maybe because we've always chosen Freedom dining (on Princess before we discovered P&O). The only seated dining we had was aboard Arcadia and we did get an invitation to the Captain's cocktail party which I really did enjoy. I had nothing original at all to say to the captain and he was a rather odd man - no names! - but some of the guests at the party were from all walks of life ranging from those of us who weren't sure why we'd been invited to a Baroness and several other VIPs. That was the highlight for me, as it was unlikely we'd have met in ordinary circumstances and we had a thoroughly entertaining evening!

Captain Mike Carr (now retired :-( ) always dined on Table 66 in the Oriental Restaurant, second sitting, whilst captaining Oriana, we were lucky enough to be allocated that table on our cruise in 2005 and spent many an enjoyable evening with him and our other dining companions, I think he only didn't make it for dinner on 2 or 3 occasions....he was highly entertaining, we had a fantastic time.

| I was in the buffet restaurant having lunch alone at a table for two when the Captain arrived and asked if he could join me. The Captain was very sociable which was more than can be said for the passengers. There was a constant stream of people who insisted on introducing themselves and asking him if he remembered them from this cruise or that ship or this gathering or that dinner table. He could hardly eat his lunch, being a gentleman of course he didn't say anything.

We must be of the lower classes as never seen any of the Staff in at meal times. Had wondered if they ever mingled during dining times but decided they must all eat somewhere privately. Will now be carefully watching to see if any dare to enter the dining room on our next cruise.

| We have been on "hosted" tables with both SAGA and Fred. Olsen but never once with P & O on any of our seven cruises with them. We obviously must appear to be unsuitable material! We'll have to see what R917 brings. Le Cyphre

| Hello All!! We have never seen any officers dine in the main restaurants on any of our ten P&O cruises, including the one we have just come off this week (R915 Aurora) but we did get an invite to the Chiref Engineers party, we know not how!! However there was understandably no sign of the Chief Engineer at said party due to the emergency situation we came under half an hour before (a full on rescue of a burning boat off Kefalonia and Zante). It didn't matter to us, lives were more important. Regards: Karen & Peter

| Of our 5 longer P&O cruises, not including weekenders, we have had an officer on our table 3 times. We always do second sitting and the senior officers "host" a particular table for the length of time they are on board. On our Oriana Christmas cruise in 2006 we were on a table with Tim Gibbons (staff electro-tech officer) and his wife and who should we meet up with again on our recent Aurora 3-nighter but Tim and his wife! As we are going on Aurora again on 17 November for 18 nights Tim has arranged that we be on his table which is table 96 in the Alexandria restaurant. Nice to know where we'll be seated even before we board! We are nobody special and have just been lucky at being placed at an officer's hosted table. We have had really good fun on all our tables, whether there is an officer with us or not.
