| We first viisted Tunisia over 30 years ago and in the recent past about 8 years ago. Unless things have changed, you cannot take any currency into the country. It has to be obtained on arrival. Never arrived there on a cruise but it was available at the airport. I am sure that people who have travelled there recently will advise.

| We have just visited Tunis on R915. You don't need local currency at all. Most shops and traders will accept Euros, some even take Sterling and US Dollars. Be aware that the price is always the some unit, so one Dinar is one Euro, Pound or Dollar! You will not get change either as everything is in multiples of whole currency. You probably won't need too much. Note that most museums charge one Euro to take photos. It is useful to have a few spare one Euro coins as the men issuing tickets are happy to take a note, but are more reluctant to issue change!

That does not sound like a good exchange rate peejay - when we were last there the exchange rate was 2 dinars to the pound. It was a couple of years ago but the rate was 1 dinar for 70p when we first started going thereabout twelve years ago and went down after 9/11.

| If you want to make large purchases, it is definitely wise to have Dinars or use a credit card as the traders "special exchange rate" is poor to say the least! However, we went on a P&O tour. The only money we needed all day was two Euros for the photo tickets at the Bardo museum and Carthage ruins. Not worth getting money out of a machine for that type of purchase. For interest, a coke was two Euros and an ice-cream was three, so not too crazy if you don't want a handful of Dinars left over that you cannot spend anywhere else.
