| I am going on the Ventura (5th Dec'09) and had been thinking the same too with day before check-in as I used this facility back in April (09) with First Choice (Thomson Airways) for my holiday to Mexico. It was very convienent that you could check-in & book extra leg room seats and have your boarding card the day before and then on the day of the holiday, just relax and walk straight through to departures. I was surprised how popular this facility was. Nothing states that they are offering this, but if I don't hearing nothing, I shall definitely be querying this with Customer Services. Simon

| Sorry Simon, 1. You cannot check-in the day before for your flight. This is because P&O, and other cruise lines insist on having a member of their staff present during check-in as they require you to complete a health questionaire designed to weed out anyone with norovirus. This is extracted from the Q&A section on Thomson's website. Q: I’m flying with Thomson Airways on a flight to join a P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Fred. Olsen Cruises Lines, Ocean Village cruise line; can I still take advantage of Day Before Check-In? A: Unfortunately not. Cruise lines have a different check-in procedure which does not lend itself to Day Before Check-In, and this facility can not be offered to customers travelling to join a cruise line that is not operated by Thomson or First Choice.
2. You will not be able to pre-book your seat or pay for one with extra legroom as all seat are allocated by P&O. You can however book a premium class seat, but this is done through P&O and not Thomson's at a price of £198 per person round trip. You can't do a one way upgrade except on transatlantic cruises 3. You will normally be allocated the same seat coming home as you had going out, unless you are doing two cruises back to back, That's the bad new, now the good news. all long haul Thomson flights have 33 inches of legroom and as you are flying Thomson out of Gatwick, then, in all probablility you will be on a First Choice aircraft which will have a 2-3-2 configuration in economy.

| Ah bushie, I wouldn't go on too much about comparing deals. I used to use holiday extras before I discovered aph. The deal through holiday extras from 21st January to 6th Februray excluding meals and plus 15 days parking is £158.35 or £160.84 if you want to have the right to cancel and say they also say that you will need to pay summer special for an extra day. The same through aph is £147.85 with no charge for the extra day and the right to cancel up to 24 hours before the hotel stay. In my case I wanted 30 days parking and aph did the whole thing for £164.10. Holiday extras wanted £156.35 including 15 days parking which meant I would have to pay summer special parking for 15 extra days extra when I returned.

| Hi Paul, The following is the substance of an e-mail I received from aph earlier this summer. "Our records show you are booked to stay at The Sofitel, London Gatwick over the coming months.
This email is to advise you that since taking your hotel booking we have been advised by the hotel that from 13th July 2009 the North Terminal link-way from the hotel to the terminal will be closed from the North Terminal car park lift lobby to the North Terminal. The new route that customers will need to take from the Hotel is no further than the existing link-way route, but requires all foot passengers to pass through the North Terminal car park at ground level and use the North Terminal car park lifts to bring them up to Level 3 and then into the hotel via the Sofitel end of the link-way. The directions are in reverse if coming from the terminal to the hotel. This situation will be in place for approximately 9 months.
Way finding signage has been adjusted within the North Terminal to direct passengers to the hotel via the North Terminal car park passenger lifts. " They do not say anything about the monorail link but it does looks like some of the work will not be completed until Easter time. Lets hope the monorail is one of the earlier phases of the project. Thanks Grenville....I'm sure everyone staying in the Sofitel will appreciate that bit of info....I was talking about the Hilton though who have been under going a £1m refurb to their Foyer/Reception area....It looked nearly finished to me when I was there a couple of weeks ago and would be interested to find out that its finished.

The following is from the BAA(Gatwick) site:
London Gatwick Airport says farewell to the transit
16 October 2009
London Gatwick Airport said good bye to the inter-terminal transit train this week as the system’s carriages were removed from the track.
In an operation, planned with military precision, the six carriages were lifted by heavy crane on to lorries to begin their final journey to a recycling plant in Berkshire. In the last twenty-one years the carriages have carried in the region of one hundred million passengers between the airport’s two terminals.
The inter-terminal transit system is being replaced in a £45 million project, part of an overall investment programme of nearly £1 billion over five years, to improve the passenger experience. A bus replacement service was introduced at the end of September while work is underway on the new shuttle service which will be introduced from April next year, with the entire system fully operational by August 2010.
“Our inter-terminal transit system has served us well over twenty-one years,” David Brewer, London Gatwick Airport’s Development Director said. “It has travelled two and a half million miles, the equivalent of five round trips to the moon. It was state-of-the-art when we introduced it, but modern technology will enable us to have a more reliable, more efficient and more comfortable system for the Gatwick of the future.”
Some of the carriages are to be used to make training aids for the engineers who will keep the new system running efficiently whilst most of the equipment will be professionally recycled.
