Just back from the Arcadia party Cruise and had a great time, however I was very dissapointed that the Gary Rhodes restaurant was practically fully booked before boarding, we were a party of six and couldn't get a time slot not even 6pm and I was first in the queue! We did manage to get a table in the Orchid though and had a fabulous meal ,so alls well that ends well.

Does anybody know if pre-booking a select restaurant is the norm now or was this a one off, as it was a 2 night cruise?

Welcome Milander... I was under the impression that NONE of the speciality restaurants can be pre booked, you can book a package but not a time or date.....so unless people got in there a lot earlier than you think there is something up!!

Yes, we were very early boarding, and mentioned AR and that we were interested in the second evening - and we were told by a member of staff that it was already completely booked.

I wonder perhaps - if they know that a certain number of passengers have already purchased a gift voucher for AR beforehand that they then cannot make onboard new reservations for meals - such as I wanted to make?

Perhaps the wiser thing is to purchase the voucher beforehand, and then try and quote the reference number, stateroom number, cruise reservation number etc in an email and try and go about getting the time and date of the meal sorted out?  Afterall, if they have pre-sold say 200 covers, for a two day cruise and able only to provide 100 covers per night (just silly thumb-sucking numbers for ease) then they would know that their capacity is full, it is just a matter of trying to accommodate everyone as conveniently as possible - those that have the vouchers, that is.

We definitely want to visit AR on our next planned cruise, so I think I shall go ahead and pay etc now, knowing that there will be a gift voucher awaiting in the stateroom, and then a few days before embarkation I can just email and ask for a particular time and date.

Time will tell - meanwhile, the Meridian was still very nice indeed.

Cheers.

Emma - if you are on a two week (or more) cruise you will have no problem getting in AR - most nights it will, at best, be half empty (or being positive half full)

Hi David, We are still unable to commit to a longish cruise, so 2010 is going to be filled (as much as we possibly can) with short breaks; so a two week cruise is still not on.

However, your kind advice very much appreciated.  Very happy, very content, looking forward - lovely.

Cheers.

Glad to hear that tables in AR are normally available; we're on for the 23 night segment of the 2010 round the world between Auckland and Hong Kong and very much looking forward to trying it (and the Orchid as well)

Never had a problem getting a table. I think they are limited by what they can prepare not how many people.
