Hello and bon voyage!!!

If anyone is in the cyberstudy and has a minute, my mother was booked on this cruise and had to cancel due to ill-health - she is wondering what entertainers she has missed - bit of a weird question but she loves all the singers and knowing who's on would make her feel part of it!

My friend was on Aurora 28th Sept Black Sea and apparently one of the ents, a comdian I think, went down so badly he was asked to leave after his first show!

Thank you for this

We are on this cruise and will keep you posted, I don't have paper with me at the moment and I'm having to hold on to the desk to stop the chair rolling me around the room! Will update as and when! Show tonight is cancelled due to weather and there is a comedian on.

Bad weather? Oh dear, I do hope you're OK and not suffering. Go to the bar and have a port & brandy - my grandpa's rememdy - but not if you're taking Avomine or you will fall asleep into your soup! They cancel the shows sometimes for safety reasons as the dancers could take a nasty tumble, better safe than sorry. Let's hope the seas improve for you

All the best

There was a singer called Lyndsey Simon (I think) who we didn't see. Last night there was another singer Carlos Paul Santanna, who in my opinion was a better comedian than he was a singer - well atleast his very weird dance moves made for great comedy factor. The older generation on board seemed to be impressed but I couldn't look at him because he just looked constipated but drunk all the time!

Just off to a show that I don't think we've seen before called At The Hop.

Hope this is of some help!

Wow - thanks - mother is glad to have missed out on the bad weather but sorry not to have seen Carlo, she likes him. What is the weather like now? I hope you are still having a great time!

We've had the misfortune to see Carlos Paul Santana twice and he was pretty poor on both occasions!

Oh dear. It is strange how some performers get standing ovations one cruise and lukewarm response the next. When we went to Canaries in April on Oriana he got 2 standing ovations. The comedian, I forget his name, was popular but I just thought he was a bit rude without being funny - so you just can't tell.

\how do you find the food? There was a thread on this forum a little while back where they were debating whether the standard of food had gone down.

Anyway get off the computer and go and enjoy your holiday!!!

LOL

Michelle,

We're now heading home across a very calm Bay of Biscay, having had an enjoyable cruise despite the mixed weather. What a pity your mother couldn't make it.

You must tell her that the entertainments' programme didn't have the susual suspects listed within it. That lady from south Wales who teases (to put it mildly!) anyone who dares to arrive late (or leave early!) wasn't on board Aurora and nor was Colin Fingers Lee, the comedian/pianist. Instead, we've had people like Vince Earl from TV's Brookside, a very good comedian/singer; Stan Boardman's son continuing where his dad left off as a scouse comedian; the leader singer of Paper Lace who had a No 1 in the 80s with "Bill, don't be a hero"; Tony Gubba talking about his life as a BBC sports commentator and Arthur Burnham, an expert on antiques.

The Headliners provided some marvellous entertainment, eg We Are The Champions, Las Vegas, We'll Meet Again. Okay, we've seen them before but this group are all pro's. One of them, Ryan McKenzie, was on board Aurora last year in the Caribbean and the group that time was the best I've ever seen. Those on board now are not yet in the same league but then again it's their first time together and I know they'll soon be opn top form.

The Captain, David Bembridge, was his usual entertaining self at the parties and everyone on the Bridge has been looking after us very well indeed. Plenty of seasickness this time, but not that bad when you consider how stormy it was at the start of the cruise - plates falling off tables was almost commonplace!

Aurora remains my favourite ship but sadly there's been some slippage in standards. When the lamb failed to fall easily off the shank, when two of my steaks were incredibly tough and with far too much gristle on them, and when even the peas were hard enough to provide excellent ammunition in a pea-shooter, I realised that something was amiss. But the company on my table in Medina was excellent, and the  cabin steward (Aurora) was wonderful . . . as were the waiters. They work so hard and remain so courteous. In my view, it is they more than anyone else who continue to maintain P&O's reputation in the competitive world of cruising.

Of the ports we visited, La Spezia, Cartagena and Gibraltar were my favourites. Plenty to see . . . and the sun shone too!

Let's hope this has given your Mum something of a flavour of what she missed. And tell her, there's always next year!

David
