| We are booked on our cruise for 4th December, I was told by P & O today that my son who will be 7 months will get his own seat on the plane apart from take off and landing. We are flying this time with Thomsons, has anybody else flown with an under 2??

| Not an expert but from what I have heard they sit on your lap unless you have paid for a seat. Babies get the row at the front to put a cot. I suppose a 7 month old wouldn't need an actual seat though.

Our grandchild got her own seat when she was under two, fling with Thomson to join a P&O cruise.

| Thanks for your advise, sorry but yes you are wrong, Thomson dont offer sky cots for charter flights so I know they dont offer that. Maybe this is why they give them a seat, especially with it being long haul

| Hi yes they can get their own seat (if there is availability), but all infants must be in an adults lap on lap belts for take off/landing. we have done this with an infant, albeit slightly older than 7mths have a great holiday

| I can't comment about Thomson when on charter to P&O, but the general rule is that airlines do not allocate seats to infants under 24 months old. This is because the seat belts will not work properly for a person of that size. There are special belts which strap the child to the adult rather like a baby carrier. So, even if there is a spare seat available, the infant cannot use it. Instead he/she MUST be strapped to an adult during take-off and landing AND WHENEVER THE SEAT BELT SIGN is on. This is what it says on Thomson's own website in relation to the scheduled flights: "An infant must be aged less than 24 months on the day of travel and must be older than 14 days for health and safety reasons. Charges for infants vary depending on the route and length of flight and will be detailed in the booking process. Each adult can only accompany one infant. Please note there is a restriction on how many infants can travel on each flight. Infants are not entitled to their own seat or to a personal baggage allowance."

| Thanks Grenville, a very informative reply. Thats pretty much as we thought, but P&O Thought he'd have his own seat if we wanted to bring his car seat with us, but no one seems to be able to confirm either way. It would be a nice bonus if it was the case as we can not see what the sky high price we have paid for him is for.

| Just gone back and read my post and I think I could have phrased it better. When I said "So, even if there is a spare seat available, the infant cannot use it. Instead he/she MUST be strapped to an adult during take-off and landing AND WHENEVER THE SEAT BELT SIGN is on." I should have said "So, even if there is a spare seat available, the infant cannot use it during take off and landing AND WHENEVER THE SEAT BELT SIGN is on. Instead he/she MUST be strapped to an adult" as there is probably no restriction when the seat belt sign is not on.
