Now that's interesting, (glad you made it in the end) on the website "Cool Runnings'' say they don't take cruise passengers, I & others took this to mean they don't want cruise passengers any longer for some reason. Someone, it may have been DQ, said they thought it was they don't take people from ships booking independently..looks like that was right.

Yes, probably that they just take bookings direct from P&O. Thanks for your help sorting stuff out, John.

Once again it sounds like what should be a wonderful and moving experience being diluted by too many people.the poor turtles must wonder whats going on! Would love to do it personally but not under those circumstances.  The small boat option sounds the most ecologically sensible. But hey cram  'em in and make some money ,the turtles wont mind.

regards

Didn't see them, John, but they only act as booking agents for someone else (glass bottom boat people) with the turtle snorkels.

I did what I believe to be the Cat Caribe and Turtles trip from Barbados in Dec 2007. Plenty of turtles seen then and, if you don't keep up with the group as they go on to look at the wrecks, you'll have a few minutes alone with the turtles. Doesn't take long to catch up with the rest of the group. Of course, if too many read this, the secret is out..... JTG is right, small boats are the best way, but in many sites there are a lot of people there. Going at Xmas is also the busy time.

We also did it in Barbados and it was the highlight of our vacation. We chose a company (Silvermoon) that didn't cram a ton of people on each of the catamarans. In fact our boat's capacity was only passengers and crew. We had all kinds of space on the deck to spread out and enjoy the day. Food was amazing and the tropical drinks were more then welcome.

I highly recommend Barbados and Silvermoon if you want to spend an icredible day with the beautiful sea turtles.

Hiya Kerry n Dave

Are you on P925X? We've booked ' swimming with turtles' on 13th Dec  (am excursion) in Barbados. Hoping it lives up to expectations, but I'm not sure about crowds of other boats.... hadn't really considered that.

We like active trips - snorkelling, hikes to waterfalls etc. Have booked a full itinerary, like to plan ahead!!

The health & safety brigade are in Barbados. Everyone had to wear a small life jacket regardless of their swimming capability when in the water. Needless to say, makes underwater swimming very difficult. Also, keep an eye out for the jet skis offering trips - at times they come very close to what is supposed to be protected water.

Take your underwater camera (even a disposable film one) and you should get some great photographs. You are far enough away from the shore, so the water is quite deep and clear. If you want to see some of mine, pm me with your email address and I'll send a couple.
