Wednesday 4 November

Current weather wind force 4 sea slight to moderate temp 22, slightly cloudy and Speed 19 knots.
Forgot to mention yesterday, we, well me, managed to lock our selves out of the cabin safe….so if anyone else does it, don’t panic. The supervisor down on Reception comes to the cabin and sorts it all out; apparently it’s quite a regular occurrence.
It was the Indian Buffet in the Plaza restaurant, yesterday evening. We arrived just after 7.30 and the queues were out to the lifts…so 7.30 is a time to avoid. The food was delicious, but we were good and only had a little taster, following our tea at Reid’s earlier in the day.

Last night’s after dinner talk by Sue Holderness was well attended. It was full of film clips from her TV shows, so much so it was a bit like watching TV at home and I managed to nod off, so it didn’t hold my attention. (nor quite a few others). The Headliners show, again, was not up to our expectations and we left after about 15minutes. I don’t know if it’s a new mix of artistes, the sound system, the choreography, the show’s direction or content, but the shows don’t seem to be up to previous P&O standards. However for the second time this cruise we did see the elusive cruise director Rob Boyd.

One of the things we haven’t seen before is a music duo playing in the casino, strange. There was no dancing last night in the Atrium (the dancing there includes old time, sequence and modern ballroom and Latin) and although there is live music in the Yacht and compass which has a small dance floor, we haven’t seen anyone get up and dance there…. yet, perhaps we ought to start a trend

LeJardin’s breakfast menu has changed this morning, had Omelette Arnold Bennett (omelette with smoked haddock and cheese) it was delicious, John had Spicy sausage croissant. After breakfast we walked a few times round the Promenade deck. John is a bit peeved that there’s no running round this wooden deck as it disturbs the people below resting in their staterooms. Running apparently is now confined to deck 14 where you have to dodge in and out the sun beds.

Dance class today is Merengue and Social Foxtrot, the classes are always crowded, but perhaps now the sun is shining a few people will stay out on deck. Both ballroom and line dance classes had fewer people there today as did the talk given by the vet The vet’s stories today were all cat related. We had to miss the jewellery talk today on Alexandrite; the jewellers and vets talks always clash. Which is a pity. At the moment there’s a talk on acupuncture and another on teeth whitening.

Lunch at LeJardin was deep fried breaded mushrooms stuffed with ham and cheese, then John had pan-fried pork fillet with calvados jus and sauté potatoes, while I had coq au vin. Pudding choice was pecan pie, white chocolate gateaux, fresh fruit salad, glazed individual fruit tart, dark chocolate Swiss roll, éclairs stuffed with coffee cream and semolina cake.

Formal night tonight, so it’s off to dance class this afternoon, then a siesta. There are notices on the restaurant menus reminding people of tonight’s dress code, so hopefully everyone will comply.
Tonight’s entertainment choices are Oceana Rocks (The headliners, will give that one a miss), A night at the video races, assorted quizzes and ‘sensational vocalist Cheryl Sinclair’ in the Footlights theatre.
