We have booked the Virgin Gorda trip and I note it says that 'water shoes' are recommended.  Does anyone know what they mean by water shoes?  My son used to use old trainers for canoeing but I don't have any shoes I want to put in water.  At a push I could use my old (walking style) sandals perhaps.

Plastic ones maybe, or those that divers wear, available many places.

Otherwise, I supppose ,any OLD shoes that you would afterwards consign to the bin, if necessary, would be OK, as long as they give reasonable grip over the stones.

If you are doing the ''Baths'' trip they probably do mean shoes that give a grip if you want to wind your way through the boulders. Quite a trek up & down as I recall. Stunning beach.

Hi crow

as in the previous post , water shoes are usually rubber, neoprene or plastic (cheaper) I would try a sports shop/swimware shop for first two and for the latter maybe a simple plastic sandal or similar would suffice.     best of luck

I bought some from Cotton Traders, they look like trainers but allow water in & out. To be honest when we were on that trip we didn't bother.

We use these shoes a lot in the caribbean.  Getting into the and out of the water is so much easier with water shoes on.  Also near the rocks they are useful if there are any spikey animals around.  They are very inexpensive in many shops around especially the larger sports outlets.  i only paid £3.99 for my last lot.  Usually around the £5.99. they dry out very quickly over night and when I get back home I just throw then in the washing machine.  Sue

One of my favourite trips is to virgin gorda. It is a bit of an assault course to get to the beach, but I do believe you can go with out going through the boulders etc. However it is more fun if you go this way. Some of the rocks are slippy (guess that's why you need these special shoes) and some quite short or narrow. Not sure how I'd get on nowadays with my dodgy knees ;-0)
