Hi,

I just wanted to ask... What tours would you seasoned cruisers recommend for the following islands??

St Maartan, St Vincent and St Lucia!

Whether independant or with P&O any advice would be appreciated.

I have read quite a few threads and have seen 'Cosol' tours in St Lucia mentioned a few times. For those who have done this tour would you recommend it for 1st timers, who have no idea what they're doing??

Thanks. xxx

Hello Heather,

I note that you have read a few topics re these Islands but have you run a seach for any, or all, of them ?

You will get a zillion hits I suspect, if you need any advise re doing searches then feel free to ask.

We have been to St Lucia twice - and I know many people will disagree with me - but we LOVED the aerial tram. However for the first time visitor you can't do better than Sea and See tour with P&O - it covers everything. I know many folk "do their own thing" but we feel safer being on a P&O organised one. Each to their own. We also did  the best seller tours in your other two destinations and nowhere were we disappointed.

There are very good 'Sea and See' tours in both St Vincent and St Lucia.

We have never done a tour in St Maarten but I heard very good reports about the Americas Cup yacht tour (which I think was St Maarten).

Yes, you would be quite safe with Cosul tours even as a beginner. There will probably be others off your ship , or another ship in the minibus. I think there were 8 or 10 of us when we did it. Back in plenty of time for departure.

The See and Sea tours are great.  Also many taxis hanging around willing to take you where you fancy or even suggest sights for you.  Reasonably priced and reliable - we even had one drop us off at a beach and collected us promptly at an agreed time.

We are certainly not seasoned cruisers by far but St liucia we loved the sea and land tour, in fact so much we are doing it again this time.

St Maarten, fisrt time we went on the two flags tour, which is an island tour with a beach break. The tour was brilliant but the driver had a fatastic personality which helped as well. Second time, felt more adventurous! We got the water taxi to the capital Philipsburg and then after a walk around the town we got a taxi to Dawn beach.

St Vincent? Our first visit will be shortly and I look forward to other travellers suggestions!

Good evening Heather, lucky you visiting these lovely places, we were in the Caribbean in October on Oriana.

In St.Maartan we went on a semi-sub, it was really good. There was a short coach trip, about 1/2 hour to pick up the sub, the driver was very informative, he gave a running commentary all the way. We boarded the 'sub' which is a wide boat with a downstairs viewing gallery, we stayed upstairs for about 20 mins while we were told about what goes on under the water, we then descended downstairs so we could watch. It was fascinating! The water is so clear, they were lots of fish, coral and plants, we even saw a turtle! We sailed back to shore and spent about 1/2 on the beach, had a much needed swim, it was very hot, a cold drink and then boarded the coach for the ride back to the ship.

St Lucia, we didn't book a trip here, and I know there is alot of reports on here about taking taxi's etc, there were people on the ship who did their own thing and really enjoyed it, but I found the taxi drivers rather intimidating. As soon as we went out of the terminal they were pressing for a fare, and we not keen to take no for an answer. I'm not sure if they are always like that or whether it was because it was Sunday and there was more of them than usual. However, the weather was stunning, we found a Karaoke bar in the terminal that was rocking and we had a fantastic time!!

St Vincent, unfortunately we had to divert due to tropical storm Henri and missed the island out.

Have a lovely trip, we had a fantastic time and didn't want it to end!!

Best wishes,
Christine

We did the Land & Sea toour in St. Lucia and it remains one of the most enjoyable tours we have ever done.

I believe Cosol do a similar trip and they have been mentioned as being reliable.

Another vote for the land and sea in St Lucia.

I treat my cruises as a chance to relax, so take the easy way out and book the P&O excursions. If you have the stamina, go for the full day trips. If it is your first time to an area, I've enjoyed the Best Seller or Something Different ones.
