Anyone travelling on Arcadia who may wish to charge appliance beware you may not be able to fit the plug into the socket in your cabin.  On a recent cruise I wanted to charge my iPod and phone in my cabin.  Both plugs have built in electronics and are slightly elongated down from the plug pins.  The socket in my cabin was so close to the desk top that there was not enough room for the 'drop' of the plug.  There are four ways you can get round this.  The first is to bring a small extension lead (a normal plug will just go in) which will allow you to connect your plug away from the socket.  The second is to bring a 2 pin adaptor and use it upside down in the 220v 2 pin socket., the third is to take your appliance to reception and they will charge it for you or finally try and find a normal 3 pin socket.  I found 2 in the wall in the internet room by the coffee shop.

Thanks for the warning Cap n Bob. I must make sure to put the extension lead on the spare bed ready for packing!

I bought an international charger but the bathroom shaver socket is the only place in your cabin it would go into, next time I'll make a double extension lead to go in the kettle socket.

A multi gang extention lead is one of the top ten essential packing items for a cruise. Absolutely invaluable to not only resolve the problem highlighted in this thread but also because there are so few spare sockets in the cabins to charge all those cameras etc. Plus if you have any disability equipment even more crucial.

Following previous advice given on this site, we have taken an extension cable with multiple outlets on board Oceana. It's at the top of our packing list. We found that out electric toothbrushes didn't fit the bathroom socket, so I don't think an elecric shave would either. To make things more complicated most of our stuff is fitted with continental plugs

I usually make a trip to the supermarket and buy a 'basics' range extension lead with either 2 or 3 sockets. Costs less than £5 and, at the end of the cruise, I normally give the extension lead to my cabin steward. It is always well received, I don't have to worry about damage to the extension if it is being trekked back and forth on cruises and care of baggage handlers.

Feebee,

Don't you have pound shops in your area? Ours sells these 4-way adaptors for......... £1!

Either way it's somrthing to add to your packing list. I did see today in one ofv those Sunday 'junk' magazines a 'solid' 4 way adapter that justs plugs in without an extension lead but at £14.99 forget it.

Does anyone have any information on other ships?

Cap'n Bob - I would not go for the solid ones as, in my experience, there may not be sufficient room to plug one in.

I think David is correct, what I am going to do is get a two pin plug and wire it in to the four gang.
