I'm first! [or I was when I started to write]~~ yes a Special occasion. I our case, both retiring and reaching 60 years old within 2 months of each other.

Second cruise coming up and our 'excuse' this time is that it's our Ruby Wedding Anniversary.

The rest of the time we holiday with a touring caravan around France ~~ with the occasional dip into Spain and Italy.

We've thought about it on and off for a number of years and were never quite sure. However, this year, having received a quite nice bonus at work, we just decided to go for it, it may be a one off, who knows if we will be able to afford to do it again, but in case we can't then it's probably a once in a lifetime holiday.

Edited to add: Plus we're so fed up with all that you have to go through at airports these days that we decided to have a break from flying, at least for one year.

1st was with a £1000 holiday voucher we didn’t know how to spend for the best. Travel Agent recommended a cruise

2nd was because we enjoyed the 1st

3rd was because the bug had really bitten

4th because we had an inheritance and did the Round the World on Aurora

5th & 6th Back to back because we fancied one of them and PandO made us a silly offer to take the other one as well.

7th was the J706 Party Cruise to Barbados

8th was a Golden Wedding Anniversary Cruise with all the family on Queen Victoria

9th at the end of the month because I need a rest

10th next Christmas and the New Year because we want to see New Zealand and Australia. Cruise/Tour on Diamond Princess and then stay/tour in Australia

Good enough excuses/reasons?

Our first cruise was to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary and it was on Fred Olsen's Braemar.  We were really undecided about what to do.  It was my brother who said we must go to the Caribbean at least once.  Then some friends returned from their first cruise and were so enthusiastic.  They were not the sort of people I, in my ignorance at that time, thought would have been "cruising people".  Everything they told us sounded great so we started to look at brochures.

We nearly ended up on the African Safari Line but my husband took too long making his mind up and when I called they were fully booked.  So we ended up on Fred Olsen as that was the ship our friends had been on.  We had a magical time and were "hooked". Then other friends had been on Adonia and that sounded good too. So it was off to the Caribbean a second time and much as we had enjoyed Braemar, P&O offered just that bit more.  So it's been P&O ever since other than we are going on FO's Boudicca next October for a 3 night cruise which will be interesting.

Our first came about because my BH won't fly and since we met our holidays had consisted of towing the Caravan around the UK.

One day she came back from shopping in town and handed me the P & O brochure for 2005 (Spring 2004), asking me,what would I think about a cruise.

We found the one that appealed and dived in headfirst (21 nighter Caribbean Cruise on Aurora). Because of this site and picking up the cruising bug, the following spring we booked the following year's cruise before we had even been on the first one!

We have never looked back :-)

number one was because our children were both doing public exams and we wanted something special for what we reckoned would be our last 'family holiday'

In fact we were so taken with Mahon, our first port, we had a family there the following year.

OH and I have now done about 5 more on our own and we're taking the girls with us again next year. They'll be 27 and 29 by then!
