Our first cruise was a last minute deal. We had a weeks holiday to fill and the cruise started and finished on a Tuesday which fell in with our time off. We always knew we would cruise at some time as we have family members who worked for PandO.

We were lucky enough to win a cruise with the Daily Telegraph and after that, we were hooked. We'd never thought about cruising before that.

Why a Cruise?

We had thought about a cruise holiday on a number of occasions but had always found some excuse to do our normal two weeks in the sun.  And then you reach a point and an age in your life when sun, sea and culture in one location is not enough.

So, last October after a fantastic holiday in Lanzarote, we visited our local travel agent, pulled some brochures and..........

2nd November 2008 our first cruise with P&O and Arcadia.

Since booking the cruise and reading the posts on the old CC and the new CC and answers we have received from the many members of the community to our many questions we both feel we have done the right thing and we are now ........ 21 weeks to go and counting.

The strangest thing that we will find on the cruise is that we have always gone self catering so this will be something different.

Regards

Peter & Jennifer

Our Silver Wedding Anniversary was our first , it was to the Caribbean on the Royal Princess at the beginning of the 90's - she is now I believe the Artemis. Was over 10 years until we cruised again but haven't looked back since.  Try to squeeze in as many as we can.

Always wanted to try cruising, but weren't sure whether we would like it or not, so used our 10th anniversary in 2005 to book a weekender to 'test the water'!

Haven't looked back since!

Someone at work recommended it to me as I like to see different things on holiday (had tried coach holidays but the constant packing and unpacking drove me mad!)

I was convinced I'd hate being couped up on a ship but decided to give it a go so booked a week's cruise around the Canaries on the Thompson Spirit and I don't need to tell you all that by the end of the week I was completely hooked!  Done 4 cruises so far (1st with P&O was in January this year) and have 3 more booked through to January 2010.  No special occasions involved yet but I am already considering doing something special for a big birthday coming up in a few years.

I had wanted to cruise for a very long time, but hubby was not so keen.  Eventually, I wore him down and our first cruise was on the Thomson Emerald around the Med in 1998 - a week's cruise and a week's stay in Majorca.  I felt so excited and posh - I even had acrylic nails put on and varnished, so I could wave my hands around a lot and show them off.  We had a lovely time and our only regret was that we had cruised first and found the land stay, though enjoyable, a real anticlimax.  We didn't sail again until 2002 when, for our 40th wedding anniversary, we flew out to Barbados to join the old Arcadia (we had a full suite and it was massive).  Except for 2003, when we were on the Caronia, we have sailed every year since with P&O and have never regretted being bitten by the cruising bug.
