Has everyone finished packing?  Repacked my suitcase 3 times - it's still over the limit & it doesn't include formal wear!  Where am I going wrong?  At this rate - I'll still be packing on Friday morning.............

Well got back this morning from our first ever cruise, it certainly won't be first and last though, however i will be sure to avoid any cruises that go anywhere near St Thomas or any other American flagged island lol.

Thouroghly enjoyed the Ventura, met many wonderfull people who i hope we will keep in touch with.

Hope to meet up with others in the future on many other cruises.

Ian OL, why would you avoid St Thomas?  We are going there next year.  What is the problem?  We are on Ventura N928 and we are so looking forward to it.  How strict were they with the no alcohol policy?  Sue

Well were back ! What a great holiday !

Anybody out there worried about Ventura - then don't , its fantastic as good as Oriana, Aurora and Oceana

Met some lovely people

Highlights for us was St Maartin and the bike ride & Champagne cruise in Barbados and for us the luxury of a balcony for the first time.

The issue mentioned about St Thomas was all down to the whole ship and the crew having to go through US Immigration. They boarded the ship and long queues quickly built up and we had to wait 1 and a half hours ...... lots of grumpy people ! Did not think that much of St Thomas - all jewellery shops & not that cheap.

Gavin & Karen

PS - Will write a cruise report when the depression has gone !

Kersh

There were horrendous queues on the ship just to stand in front of the US Border guards and get the stamp in your passport, this was only what i expected in all honesty. All passengers had been given alloted times in which to attend but of course a hell of a lot of people decided that they could go whenever they wished no matter about the timetable so this made the queues even longer. Just be prepared to stand in these queues, they didnt really bother me as i actually found it quite funny but as Mousemania says a lot of people were getting very very angry and blaming everyone. The US border agency did not supply as many guards as they promised so this again compounded matters.

The island of St Thomas itself was not as good as i expected it to be, i did not find the shopping there to be any cheaper than other islands, and i was sick of the sight of Jewellry shops by then. We went into thr town of Charlotte Amelie and booked an island tour there. We went all around the island and did get to some good viewpoints for photographs, but personaly i did not feel that the island was "special" enough to warrant the immigration queues.

Please do not get me wrong the whole holiday was absolutely fantastic, Ventura was everything i expected it to be, and this one small blip did not detract from the whole experience. Given the opportunity i would join you on your cruise and do it all over again.

Ian
