About Dubrovnik

Sailing into the beautiful 12th century Croatian walled city of Dubrovnik is one of the great cruising experiences.

The spectacular Old Town – with its pretty harbour, towering ramparts, creamy stone pavements and red-roofed buildings – is crammed with architectural wonders like Onofrio’s Fountain - constructed in the 1430s – and the 14th century Franciscan Monastery, home to a wonderful statue of the Piéta carved in 1498, and the world’s oldest pharmacy (est. 1391).

Visit the magnificently Gothic Sponza Palace and the 18th century Baroque Church of St Blaise, Dubrovnik’s patron saint.

And, when you have had your fill of sightseeing, you will find pretty restaurants and cafés tucked away on Dubrovnik’s narrow side streets – worth exploring as they also contain offbeat shops and art galleries.

Lacework, oil paintings and ceramics are good buys but take plenty of cash with you, as some shops do not accept credit cards.

Shore excursions in Dubrovnik

Please note: The shore excursions listed are typical for this port. The full programme of shore excursions available for your cruise will be displayed on Cruise Personaliser at least 12 weeks prior to departure.

You will also have the opportunity to sample locally made cheese and ham accompanied by a glass of wine.

Continue to the small town of Ston, also known as the oyster capital of Croatia, and often referred to as a smaller version of Dubrovnik due to its magnificent walls surrounding the town.

Cable Car and Cavtat

Activity mediumShopping

Duration: 3½ hours

Take a cable car to the top of Srdj Hill for a majestic view of Dubrovnik Old City, before visiting the charming town of Cavtat.

The original Dubrovnik cable car was built back in 1969 and was used by visitors and the locals who wanted to enjoy a magnificent view of Dubrovnik Old City and the surrounding area. Until the war in 1991, more than 2½ million people were transferred to the top of Srdj Hill. After its destruction in the war, it remained in disrepair until it was restored and reopened in 2010.

A brief transfer by coach will take you to the lower station to board the cable car. As you glide upwards, enjoy the surrounding views of the Croatian countryside before reaching the top. Take time to see the spectacular view of Dubrovnik City unfold before you.

After your cable car ride, continue westwards by coach through the lovely countryside and onto Cavtat, the southernmost town in Croatia. Situated in a bay, encircled by 2 peninsulas, few places offer such harmony of Mediterranean flora, emerald sea and architecture, whilst cherishing a rich cultural and historical tradition.

Enjoy free time to explore Cavtat independently before the return drive to the port.

Essential information

This excursion will operate by coach, cable car and on foot. Walking is at your own discretion during the free time at the top of Srdj Hill and in Cavtat. Long queues may be experienced at the cable car station, due to the popularity of this attraction. Due to local parking regulations, passengers may be required to walk approximately 200 metres from the bus parking area to the cable car station; this would also involve negotiating around 30 steps.
