About Khor al Fakkan

Surrounded by the Hajar Mountains and flanked by pristine white-sand beaches is Khor Al Fakkan (meaning Creek of Two Jaws) on the Gulf of Oman. The town's laid-back vibe offers more in the way of relaxation than excitement and bustle. The Corniche with its palm trees, gardens, restaurants and cafés makes a pleasant stroll.

The 16th century Fujairah Fort is a photogenic gem with its towers and battlements framed against the mountains. Shark Island lying just offshore has several well-known dive sites such as Shark Drift, Coral Gardens and Anemone Gardens. (Don't be alarmed though - 'sharq' is Arabic for 'east'.) Having said that, snorkel amongst the multi-coloured coral and you may indeed be lucky enough to spot a black tip reef shark, among a rich array of other reef life, including rays, turtles, puffers and batfish. Though, on the beach, cover up, ladies and gents - this is a very conservative emirate, so Western-style bathing suits are not allowed.
