About Khor al Fakkan

Surrounded by the Hajar Mountains and flanked by pristine white-sand beaches is Khor Al Fakkan (meaning Creek of Two Jaws) on the Gulf of Oman. The town's laid-back vibe offers more in the way of relaxation than excitement and bustle. The Corniche with its palm trees, gardens, restaurants and cafés makes a pleasant stroll.

The 16th century Fujairah Fort is a photogenic gem with its towers and battlements framed against the mountains. Shark Island lying just offshore has several well-known dive sites such as Shark Drift, Coral Gardens and Anemone Gardens. (Don't be alarmed though - 'sharq' is Arabic for 'east'.) Having said that, snorkel amongst the multi-coloured coral and you may indeed be lucky enough to spot a black tip reef shark, among a rich array of other reef life, including rays, turtles, puffers and batfish. Though, on the beach, cover up, ladies and gents - this is a very conservative emirate, so Western-style bathing suits are not allowed.

Arabic Cuisine Experience

Meet the chef at the Miramar al Aqah Beach Resort and experience an exclusive live Arabic cooking and tasting session.

Just a short drive from the port is the Miramar al Aqah Beach Resort, nestled between the foothills of the Hajar Mountains and the Indian Ocean. Upon arrival, meet the chef and enjoy a soft drink refreshment, before heading to one of the resorts on-site restaurants.

Over the course of an hour, watch the chef prepare traditional Arabian dishes and discover a few cooking tricks and tips along the way. Once the dishes are prepared, you’ll have the opportunity to sample the delicious food. Recipes of the menu will be provided for you to try your hand at home.

After your cooking experience, you can reflect on your new found knowledge on the return drive to the port.

Essential information

This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. This is a chef’s demonstration only and passengers do not take part in the cooking. There is limited walking, however passengers must be able to negotiate steps on to and off the coach and there will be periods of standing.

Beach Break

Simply sit back, relax and enjoy a leisurely break at the beach.

Embark on a scenic drive along the east coast to the Sandy Beach Resort.

Upon arrival, you’ll be offered a refreshing drink and have a brief orientation of the beach and its facilities. Then it’s time for you to relax and enjoy 3 hours of free time on the beach, occasionally cooling off in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

Essential information

This tour will operate by coach. Passengers are reminded to wear swimwear, take a towel and sunscreen. A sunbed and shared umbrella are included. Showers and changing facilities are available. Please refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages prior to any swimming activities. There may be independent suppliers on the beach that offer water sports, these are provided by parties unconnected to P&O Cruises.

Dhow Cruise in Dibba

Head to Dibba Al Hisn to enjoy a relaxing cruise on board a traditional wooden dhow.

Dibba Al Hisn is an enclave of Sharjah, one of the 7 Emirates in the UAE, and sits just across the border into Oman.

Enjoy the scenery as you drive to Dibba, where you’ll step aboard a traditional dhow boat. Settle yourself in as your cruise sets off along the Gulf of Oman, towards the Huffa Bay area. As the modern buildings fade away, the scenery changes to rugged mountains that plunge into the sea. Sip on a soft drink refreshment, as you admire the surroundings.

During your cruise, your boat will anchor off-shore for the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim. After cooling off in the water, a traditional buffet lunch will be served, before cruising back to Dibba.

Essential information

This excursion will operate by coach and by dhow boat. Passengers must carry their passports for the UAE-Oman border crossing. The journey to Dibba is around 1 ¼ hours each way, which includes the UAE-Oman border crossing. This tour involves limited walking, however passengers must be able to negotiate steps onto and off the dhow boat and when boarding. For those wishing to swim, please remember swimwear, a towel and sun protection. Participants must be competent swimmers. Passengers will be required to negotiate a ladder in to the water.

Dhow Cruise in Dibba

Emirati Home Experience

A unique opportunity to spend time at the home of an Emirati family and experience their culture and traditions first hand.

Be drawn into the wonders of the Arabian culture as a warm welcome awaits you at the house of a local family in Khor Al Fakkan. The family will share stories of the past and provide an insight into their country, values, traditional dress and way of living. Relax and enjoy the atmosphere over a cup of Arabic tea or coffee and sample some local Arabic refreshments.

During your tour, and to tie in with its cultural aspect, a short drive to Fujairah will be made to visit the Fujairah Heritage Village, a recreation of 16th Century Arabian Village life. There will also be a photo opportunity at the Old Fort of Fujairah.

This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. This tour has limited space and early booking is advised to avoid disappointment. The time spent at the family home is around 1½ hours. This tour involves around 30 minutes of walking over varying terrain at the Heritage Village. There are 3 steps to enter the Emirati family house. Passengers must be able to negotiate steps onto and off the coach. Flat, comfortable shoes are advised. Passengers must be dressed modestly in accordance with the local culture and shoulders and knees must be covered.

Fujairah Past and Present

Admire a modern Emirate city that has kept the spirit of tradition alive.

Embark on a scenic drive along the east coast, passing sandy beaches, majestic mountains and lush mangroves, as your knowledgeable guide paints a picture of what awaits you.

Upon arrival in Kalba, an enclave belonging to Sharjah, admire the charismatic old fort before visiting the beachside residence of H.E. Bait Al Sheikh Saeed bin Hamed Al Qasimi. This beautifully restored private house was built at the turn of the 19th Century and is witness to an exciting political past.

Back in the heart of Fujairah, delve into the ancient past at the Fujairah Museum and discover its diverse collection, including artefacts excavated from nearby. At the Fujairah Heritage Village, step back in time to the traditions of the 16th Century. The carefully recreated Arabian village depicts the home life of the day, including cooking utensils, farming tools and the Al Yazrah irrigation system.

During your tour, a soft drink and a snack bar will be offered on board the coach.
