Romania Cruises

Romania is located on the shores of the Black Sea, between Bulgaria and Ukraine.

Covering over 90,000 square miles, Romania has made steady progress since the 1989 revolution, and its economy is growing. Bucharest, the capital of Romania and Europe’s sixth largest city, is a popular destination to travel to, full of Ottoman architecture, cafés and pubs.

Arriving on your Romania cruise into our port in Constanta will introduce you to the gorgeous vistas that line the Black Sea. Constanta is Romania’s largest port and its history can be traced back over 2,500 years. When King Carol I was in power he decided to revive Constanta as a port and seaside resort, and succeeded in renovating the area for generations to come.

Romania Cruise holiday Highlights

History

Romania derives from the Latin ‘romanus’, meaning ‘citizen of Rome’. Currently, almost 20 million people live in Romania, making it the seventh most populous member state in the EU. The River Danube flows through ten countries before running into Romania's Danube Delta, and the Carpathian Mountains cross Romania from the north to the southwest, creating some fantastic views for the intrepid traveller

Take a walk around and you’ll find Ovidiu's Square, with its impressive statue, the Roman Mosaics warehouse and shop area, and the Genoese Lighthouse, built in 1860 to honour the merchants who established the now-flourishing sea trade here.

The lost city

Lake Sinoe is another beautiful spot close enough to Constanta for a day trip. Here you can visit one of the most beautiful lagoons in Romania. It’s also an excellent bird watching site thanks to the marshy land and reed beds between Lake Nuntasi and Lake Sinoe. The Histria Fortress is nearby – the oldest Greek settlement in Romania. This lost city features the remains of Aphrodite’s Temple, the Temple of Zeus and the Roman Baths.

As the third largest city in Romania, Constanta is filled with historical monuments, ancient ruins, museums, shops and restaurants.

It’s also only three miles away from the big holiday resorts of Mamaia. Here you’ll find all the amenities you’d associate with what has become one of the most popular places in Romania to go on a package holiday.

If you want to explore a little further afield from your Romania cruise port, the spa resort of Mangalia is just 25 miles away. Here you’ll find a beach with shallow waters and natural mineral water springs, reported to have curative powers.
