About Trujillo

Trujillo, on Honduras' northern Caribbean coast, sits in a picturesque deep-water natural bay in front of imposing mountains Mount Capiro and Mount Calentura. The waters are typically empty except for distinctive Dole banana boats. And each morning you can watch local fishermen catch with hand lines or dive for conch and lobster from their dugout canoes. In downtown Trujillo are buildings of French and Spanish influence as well as a formidable historic Spanish fort. Amidst the region's waterfalls, rivers and streams and tropical rainforest, a trip to the Guaimoreto Lagoon nature reserve offers a mangrove ecosystem, home to roseate spoonbill birds and hummingbirds. Or visit the plentiful Campo del Mar Park System for its gardens and wildlife, popular museum, 15th century Spanish road and beach.

Reflecting the growing tourism business, Trujillo's Banana Coast development brings new visitor amenities to the Honduras port and is named after the thriving banana industry here in the 1920s, '30s and '40s.
