Burnie Highlights and Penguin

Highlights on this tour include the Pioneer Village Museum, tasting some famous cheeses and finding out how Roo Poo Paper is made.

Visit the Burnie Pioneer Museum to see the recreation of the main street of Burnie as it was in the 1900’s at the height of the town’s first economic boom. Admire the authentic 19th century materials, colours and architectural styles that have been used in the reconstruction.

Stop briefly to stimulate the taste buds at the Cheese Tasting Centre where you may wish to buy one or more of the large range available that are made at the factory. A brief stop at the Wilfred Campbell lookout provides an excellent photo opportunity.

Continue to the coastal town of Penguin and experience the town’s sense of humour about its namesake. These include a large penguin at the beachfront park, reputedly the world’s largest, and penguin garbage bins in the street.

Tasmania is famous for many things, but among the lesser known is its paper production. Visit Australia’s largest handmade paper studio, Creative Paper. See full size paper sculptures and a range of wonderful paper products including the most unusual ‘Roo Poo Paper’ incorporating a special kangaroo by-product.

Annsleigh Gardens and Wildlife

See emus and get close to free-roaming kangaroos at Wing’s Farm Park before visiting the award winning Annsleigh Gardens.

Tasmania is famous for the Tasmanian Devil as well as its impressive gardens. Visit the award winning Annsleigh Gardens and Wing’s Farm Park, a massive reserve with an impressive array of native Australian animals.

Your relaxing drive will take you through the picturesque countryside of Tasmania, passing fields and lush green vistas en route to Wing’s Farm Park. Here, you will see Tasmanian Devils, Quoll’s, and other native wildlife. You’ll have the opportunity to see farm creatures including reptiles and kangaroos or perhaps take the opportunity to visit the animal nursery.

Continue to the award-winning Annsleigh Gardens, an English style Garden covering two hectares. These carefully landscaped and tended Gardens features rockeries, paved courtyards, fountains,waterways and sunken gardens. Enjoy some free time exploring this delightful attraction.

Devils and Roos – Wildlife Park

Travel through beautiful countryside to Wing’s Farm Park to see a variety of Australian native animals.

Your tour begins with a scenic drive through the northern region of Tasmania incorporating some of this island state’s most picturesque countryside.

Gunns Plains is a prosperous farming district located approximately 45 minutes south of Burnie. Upon arrival at Wing’s Farm Park, you can explore at your own pace and see Tasmanian Devils, Quoll’s, and other native wildlife including reptiles and kangaroos. Alternatively, take the opportunity to visit the animal nursery. Before returning to the ship, take a brief drive through Burnie and learn about this Tasmanian gateway to the north.

Towns of Northwest Tasmania

A great way to get to know Burnie, see beautiful countryside and visit the significant towns of north west Tasmania.

After an orientation tour of Burnie, travel out along the coast heading east to arrive in Devonport. Following a brief town sights tour, visit the Maritime Museum with its interesting collection of memorabilia. Make the most of a photo stop at Mersey Bluff, offering views of the town and spectacular coastline.

Continue to Latrobe for some free time to explore and possibly find somewhere to have lunch. Perhaps visit the Axemans Hall of Fame which displays the harvesting, milling and building techniques of our early pioneers or enjoy the popular Platypus Experience.

Leaving Latrobe, your next stop is a tour of the Anvers Chocolate Factory to witness the mouth watering chocolate making process. Anvers uses only the freshest Tasmania cream, pure butter, exquisite liqueurs and natural flavours. Continue on to the quaint township of Sheffield, most famous for its unusual collection of murals that illustrate the history of the area and which are painted on the side of the town’s buildings.

Cradle Mountain

An iconic feature of the Tasmanian landscape is beautiful Cradle Mountain offering a combination of lakes, forests and stunning scenery.

Visit one of the most popular natural areas in Tasmania, Cradle Mountain, in Lake St Clair National Park. Your scenic drive takes 90 minutes stretching from Cradle Mountain to Southwest Cape including rainforests, sub-alpine lakes and Tasmania’s highest peak.

You will have the opportunity to admire and walk through the rainforest and view Pencil Pine Creek and waterfalls from an elevated boardwalk. Board a minivan for the drive to Dove Lake, for views of the Lake and Cradle Mountain. You may be able to view dramatic Cradle Mountain reflected in the still waters of Dove Lake (weather permitting).
