Constanta and Zamfira's Wedding

See the city sights of Constanta and enjoy a Romanian folkloric show depicting a traditional wedding.

More than 2,500 years ago, the Greeks founded the colonies of Histria, Tomis and Callatis. Over the centuries the colonies diminished and, on the ruin of Tomis, the city of Constanta grew. Take a tour of the old city centre stopping at the Ethnographical Museum where you can admire orthodox icons painted on glass and the traditional costumes from the Dobrudja region.

In Ovid Square stands the statue of the Roman poet that exiled to Tomis at the beginning of the 1st century AD. Visit the Roman Mosaic, which used to be one of the largest mosaics in this part of the world, and the orthodox Cathedral of St Peter and Paul. From the Casino, there is a delightful view over Constanta harbour.

After a short drive, arrive in Eforie Nord, one of the most popular resorts on the Romanian Black Sea coast. In the Nunta Zamfirei Restaurant, enjoy a Romanian folk show, representing a typical Romanian wedding, while tasting a traditional Romanian snack and a glass of wine.

Ancient Histria

Combine a visit to the ancient city of Histria, the ‘Romainian Pompeii’, home to one of the largest Roman mosaics in the world.

Founded in 656 BC, Histria is named after the Greek word for the famous River Danube. Set on the shores of Lake Sinoe, the city was raised over 2,600 years ago. Take in the scenic and rural countryside of Romania before arriving at the amazing archaeological site.

Founded by navigators and merchants from around Europe, olive oil, wine, honey and wax were traded on the shores. Over 14 centuries, Histria became one of the most important ports for all major events for the Greeks and Romans. The site started excavation in 1914, representing the longest archaeological research in Romania. Destroyed by Avars during the invasion in the 6th century, the site was discovered by the historian and archaeologist Vasile Parvan. The Museum has a unique collection of valuable discoveries which you can browse at leisure.

The Mosaic Complex houses one of the largest mosaics in the world. Covering over 2,000 square metres, it represents part of 11 warehouses that received all the goods for the harbour of Tomis.
