Explore the rugged coastal scenery of Newfoundland on a scenic drive to Cape Spear Lighthouse and enjoy the tranquility of St John’s.
Enjoy the sights as you travel out of St John’s along a scenic coastal route to Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America. Built in 1834, Cape Spear Lighthouse is Newfoundland’s oldest surviving coastal light. Here you can absorb the dramatic setting of the continent’s edge, while exploring the tunnels and fortifications that protected the gateway to the New World during the wars of the 20th century. You will have some free time at Cape Spear to enjoy the captivating seascapes, take photos and visit the lighthouse.
Following the same route, you’ll travel back to St John’s for a panoramic sightseeing tour through the city. You’ll find that St John’s is a delightful blend of colourful, wooden houses and stone churches, mixed with modern structures.
Located at the headland of St John’s Harbour, Signal Hill is home to the Cabot Tower, built to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot’s voyage of discovery. From here, you’ll have a great panoramic view of the city, harbour and surrounding sea.
A short stop will be made in the downtown shopping area of St John’s to give you the opportunity to browse for souvenirs from Newfoundland and Labrador.
