Loyalty & Cruise Sales Manager Brooke Christie

What does your job involve?
I work as part of the team on board, helping to look after our loyalty programme, The Peninsular Club, and booking guests onto their next cruise. From counting cocktail glasses to organising table plans, with so many great member benefits to deliver there’s always plenty to think about – particularly on a Full World Cruise. But walking around the restaurant during a members’ event and seeing how much everyone is enjoying themselves is immensely satisfying.

Has anything happened recently that was especially exciting?
I was lucky enough to be on Aurora’s Full World Cruise recently, where we had a two-day call in San Francisco, which is one of my all-time favourite cities. We held an exclusive event for our Ligurian-tier members at the historic and very glamorous Fairmont Hotel, and danced the night away to an 11-piece live band. It was an unforgettable night.

Did you always want to work on a ship or in the travel industry?
I was about five years old when I decided to become a travel agent, having seen my grandparents off on their many holidays. So I went to travel college to follow my dream, then became a travel agent in Australia. When I moved to Britain, I started working for P&O Cruises, combining my love of travel with helping other people make their dreams come true on amazing cruise holidays.

What do you enjoy about being on board?
I love being in a different place every day. On the sea days, I enjoy the glamour of formal nights when everyone gets dressed up, as you don’t get that at home. Adonia holds a special place in my heart because I was working on board for her inaugural cruise, and because she offers such an intimate cruising experience where you really get to know everyone on board. But for sheer choice in dining and entertainment, you can’t beat Azura. Her Caribbean season, and particularly the New Year party we had on deck, was one of the best experiences I’ve had at sea.

Which has been your favourite destination so far?
This is such a hard question to answer! I enjoyed a wonderful day in the Falkland Islands, where we drove in a jeep ride out to see penguins. There were hundreds of them: some just happily basking in the sunshine and some curious ones that came over to us. One of my bucket-list items was to climb the Great Wall of China, which I finally got to do on a shore excursion from Xingang on Aurora’s Full World Cruise. I even took along a bottle of bubbly to toast reaching the top of the wall! It was an amazing experience.
The Baltic is a great region to cruise around and one of my all-time favourite excursions is the Evening at the Hermitage in St Petersburg. The museum is closed to the general public, so you can explore the palace and view some of the amazing art and treasures in peace before enjoying a classical concert in one of the ceremonial halls. Sometimes I feel so lucky to have my job!

Who or what do you miss about life on land?
My family, and not being able to see my three nephews and nieces grow up. Oh, and meat pies!

What makes you feel proud about your work?
Seeing our guests return and speak of the wonderful cruise memories we’ve made together. And also working with such amazing people. Life is nothing without sharing it with other people.
