On-board Revenue Manager Tracey Foy has worked at Carnival UK for eight years, starting on a graduate programme after she left university. During that time, she has worked at sea and with the sales and marketing teams before moving to the retail services team five years ago.

What does your day-to-day job involve?

I am responsible for managing the shops across the P&O Cruises fleet, which is a fantastic job when you love shopping as much as I do! Being on a cruise is a unique experience. My team makes sure our shops are right on trend with all the latest in cruisewear appropriate for the cruise. This way, guests can buy and wear straight away.

Why is shopping a popular pastime on board?

Shopping is part of the relaxing on-board culture. You can take your time to browse when it suits you, such as before a show or after dinner, or spend all afternoon on a sea day immersing yourself in our shopping experience. And, of course, doing your shopping on board leaves you more time in port to explore our wonderful destinations.

Are you particular about which brands are offered on the ships?

We’re selective about what we stock in the stores and all our ships have different ranges. That way we can tailor the products to the season, destination and type of guests on board. There are options for casual and relaxing days at sea, along with some more dressy options for gala events and evenings out.  Plus, we regularly update the ranges throughout the year, so there’s always something new, even for regular cruisers.

Tell us what mix of fashion shops can be found on board.

We have plenty of top international brands but as a British cruise line we do like to champion British brands. Our stunning jewellery range, for example, includes gorgeous Welsh gold from Clogau. Look out, too, for products that are exclusive to P&O Cruises, and special items such as Mova’s self-rotating globes and our popular range of gemstones in Tanzanite. All the travel essentials are available, of course – such as suncream, shampoo and toothpaste – so you can pack light and just pick up these items when you board. Plus, you’ll find a great range of holiday reads, and some not-so-essential items in the form of tasty chocolates and biscuits.

Of all the ships in the fleet, which is your favourite and why?

It has to be Britannia. For me, the biggest ship really is the best! It has something for everyone. My entire family likes to cruise, so when we’re all on Britannia everyone is happy – the children love the pools and are always in The Reef programme; my parents love the evening entertainment; and as a self-confessed shopaholic, I’m spoilt for choice with all the brands on board.

What are a few of your favourite destinations and why do you love them?

Venice is my favourite destination. When I get off the ship, I can just walk around for hours. It’s the most amazing place to get lost in, as really you’re never actually lost – you’re just discovering new places and you always find your way back. I also love spending the day at St Mark’s Square, drinking delicious Italian coffee and watching the world go by. I also love St Petersburg – when I was last there I went on a Russian Folklore Evening shore excursion. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and an experience I will never forget.

Which destinations are best for shopping? Any top tips on where to go or what to buy when there?

I would have to say the Caribbean. It’s such a beautiful place to visit and also a fun place to shop. The best piece of advice I can give anyone in the Caribbean is to take advantage of our on-board shore shopping programme. We have an experienced guide on board most of our Caribbean itineraries to help advise our guests where and which shops to purchase from. Our guests can then be reassured as their purchase comes with a 45-day guarantee.

When you’re on board, how do you like to relax?

For me, cruising is all about spending time with my family. We’re most relaxed sitting up on deck, watching as the ship sails in or out of ports.

What restaurants do you look forward to enjoying most when you’re on board?

As I’m usually travelling as part of a group, my favourite dining experience is The Glass House. With a selection of smaller dishes there’s something for everyone, and the wine selection is also pretty good!
