A world of new experiences

27/03/2015

Whether you’re a fan of food, sport, music or fabulous fiestas, our new Event Cruises for 2016 coincide with events, festivals and local celebrations to add even more sparkle to your trip.

The Formula One Grand Prix in Monaco

Fancy being in Monaco for next year’s exhilarating Formula One Grand Prix? Or doing your Christmas shopping with a mug of glühwein in Bruges? Or how about honing your cookery skills on board under the watchful eye of one of Britain’s leading chefs?

Whatever you’re into, you can join the party on one of our new Event Cruises in 2016. On board, there are concerts, courses and masterclasses to choose from, while onshore the fun continues with trips to local festivals, sporting events and celebrations to give you a flavour of real life and culture in the places you visit.

Here’s just a taster of what we’ve got in store…

Go mad in the Med

We’ve carefully planned our programme to ensure we’re in port for special events such as the Naples Pizza Village, where foodies can learn tips from the masters and gorge on gooey slices. In Monaco, meanwhile, you can revel in the glamour and heady thrills of Formula One racing at the Grand Prix, which takes over the streets in May, or witness the International Fireworks Festival, where the world’s leading pyrotechnicians battle it out with dazzling displays. Of course, from the deck of your ship you’ll have the best seat in the house.

Year-round sunshine in the Canaries and Iberia

Whether you go for the Atlantic coast or islands, you can choose any one of our ships (except Aurora) to get acquainted with the beaches, lively towns and friendly faces in this sun-soaked part of the world.

New Year in Madeira is always a special occasion. As well as receiving a welcome blast of winter sun, you’ll witness spectacular fireworks in the bay of Funchal from the deck of Oceana, while thousands of glittering lights illuminate the naturally formed amphitheatre. Bur around Easter time too, Madeira’s annual spring flower festival brings a carnival atmosphere to the streets with music, parades and beautiful displays of local blooms.

Another major highlight is the Malaga Feria in August: an exuberant, castanet-clicking street fiesta to commemorate the reclaiming of the city by the Catholic Monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand in 1487.

Blend into Baltic life

If you’re heading this way in the summer, why not time your cruise to catch the Kiel Week sailing regatta in Germany or the Copenhagen Jazz Festival? However, winter is when Scandinavia really comes into its own, boasting some of the world’s best Christmas markets. Copenhagen’s Tivoli gardens is a firm favourite, with an open-air stage, Santa’s grotto, funfair rides and market stalls, while in Oslo guests can even try skiing at the alpine resort just minutes from the city centre.

Carefree in the Caribbean

Sun-seekers can sail leisurely from Southampton or fly to Barbados to get stuck in straight away on cruises that range from 14 to 35 nights. New for 2016 is Azura’s mini New Orleans programme, which offers the opportunity to spend Christmas in the US, while Oriana will dock at New Orleans in April to give guests a chance to soak up soul-stirring music at the epic Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Themed cruises

For budding chefs and devoted foodies, our expert Food Heroes will be joining a number of cruises to host demonstrations, dinners, Q&A sessions and exclusive masterclasses. These very special cruises are all about food, glorious food – and you could be lucky enough to learn from such culinary masters as James Martin, Marco Pierre White an Eric Lanlard, while wine connoisseur Olly Smith will often be found at The Glass House on board Azura, Ventura, Aurora and Britannia to give guests personal recommendations.

Strictly fans, meanwhile, can meet the stars of the show, watch exclusive performances on board and even have a go themselves at masterclasses on our sizzling Strictly Come Dancing themed cruises. There’s also a chance to see and learn more about the sparkling, sequin-encrusted costumes.
