Dates for your diary: Music Festivals at Sea 2017

20/06/2016

In 1984 we launched our first ever Music Festivals at Sea themed cruise. Thirty-two years on and they are still going strong, with three cruise dates set for 2017

2017 will be the 33rd year of our Music Festivals at Sea themed cruises

When we originally launched our Music Festivals at Sea programme, the focus was largely on classical music. Today, guests embarking on one of our music-themed cruises – organised by the fantastic Music Festivals at Sea Director Stephannie Williams – will be treated to some of the world’s most talented musicians and singers performing a range of recitals, opera and operetta.

International opera singers and instrumentalists, famous tenors, sopranos and violinists, string quartets and ensembles… they all combine to deliver guests an extraordinary cruise full of music. There are also fun music quizzes and interviews hosted by well-known TV, radio and stage personalities, and in recent years we've also presented concerts ashore and introduced guest choruses led by some of today's leading choral directors, with performances of many Gilbert & Sullivan productions and well-known oratorios.

The music continues

In 2014, our popular Music Festivals at Sea programme celebrated its 30-year anniversary. Going into its 33rd year, we’re pleased to announce three Music Festivals at Sea themed cruises for 2017.

On 18 March 2017, Oriana will depart for 24-nights around the Caribbean and Azores on cruise X704. As she makes the relaxing transatlantic crossing, guests can enjoy the finest music and all the Music Festivals at Sea programme has to offer. The first port of call will be the town of Praia da Vitoria on the island of Terceira, the third largest island in the remote Azores archipelago. With its long sandy beach, colourful old houses and interesting churches, it is a welcome port of call on the journey to the Caribbean islands of St Maarten, St Kitts, Antigua, Martinique and Barbados.

For cruises later in the year, Oriana will host Music Festivals at Sea themed cruises again, in June and November. On 5 June, she sails for 19 nights on cruise X710, taking in classic Mediterranean gems in Portugal, Italy and Croatia, then again on 13 November for 18 nights to Spain, Malta and Italy on cruise X723. Guests will experience passionate and intriguing ports of call such as Seville (from Cadiz), the birthplace of flamenco; Cagliari, the historic capital of Sardinia, and Valletta, the capital of Malta, an island brimming with architectural, religious and artistic treasures.
