Anderson’s Gin: the perfect pair for tonic

Anderson’s Gin: the perfect pair for tonic

We are officially a nation of cocktail drinkers. A gin boom has seen sales surge by 12 per cent in the past year, with 40 million bottles of gin sold in 2016 and dozens of new distilleries opening across the country.

We’re not surprised. We know all too well that gin is one of our guests’ sundowners of choice at the end of a hard day’s holiday fun. That’s why we offer a wide variety of traditional and boutique British gins across the fleet.

Take Anderson’s Gin – a unique artisan gin that we have blended to celebrate 180 years of P&O history. Named after P&O co-founder Arthur Anderson and crafted in Edinburgh at Summerhall Distillery, Anderson’s Gin is made with 11 botanicals inspired by P&O’s historical routes – including juniper from Italy, cardamom from India, kaffir lime from Bangladesh and Scottish heather (in honour of Anderson’s birthplace, the Shetland Islands). After a careful development and testing phase, the ingredients were copper-distilled to create a superbly smooth and lightly spiced gin. ‘The marriage of Eastern and Western flavours sets this gin apart, in particular the kaffir lime, heather and Ceylon tea,’ explains Matt Gammell, head distiller at Summerhall Distillery. ‘It’s a perfectly balanced gin.’

Our mixologists have made two exciting Anderson’s Gin cocktails. The Anderson’s Discovery combines Aperol, fresh orange juice, honey and Fever-Tree Aromatic Tonic Water and is garnished with coriander, while Arthur’s Summer Punch includes sloe gin, lemon curd and cloudy apple juice. To keep it simple, the Perfect Serve is made with a large measure of Anderson’s Gin, Fever-Tree Tonic Water, a slice of pink grapefruit and cardamom seeds. Anderson’s Gin is also available to buy in the on-board shops and through your cabin steward to enjoy in your cabin.

For gin connoisseurs, the Great British Gin menu found across the fleet serves up 20 of the country’s finest artisan gins. Look out for boutique producers such as The Botanist Islay Dry Gin (Argyll), Tarquin’s Dry Gin (Cornwall) and Silent Pool Gin (Surrey). You’ll also find well-known brands such as Sipsmith, Tanqueray and Hendrick’s.
