Our Port Presenters are destination experts who have travelled all over the world and have a wealth of information to share about the ports of call you can visit on a P&O Cruises holiday. From helping you choose the perfect shore excursion to providing advice for independent travellers, make sure you tap into their knowledge on your next cruise in order to get the most from the destinations you’ll visit.

Be inspired, get informed

From Lisbon to St Petersburg, San Francisco to Sydney, if you have questions about the ports of call during your cruise, the best way to learn more is to attend the talks hosted by our destination experts. Held on the sea days leading up to a port of call, these engaging and informative talks cover general information about the destinations and details of the shore excursions that will be available.

‘I think attending a port presentation really helps people to understand what they can achieve in a day ashore, especially with the practical and independent information that we can provide,’ explains Sam Whiteside, a Port Presenter for P&O Cruises. ‘I can show people a different side to a place that they may have been to many times before. Guests are travellers, and we share a love for travelling and exploring new destinations.’

‘Attending a port presentation provides guests with a good overall picture of the ports that they will be visiting,’ adds Ruth Clamp, a Port Presenter currently on Ventura. ‘It also means that guests don’t spend their valuable time ashore trying to find out about what they can see and do in the area – they can plan their day in advance and begin sightseeing straight away.’

From local history and top attractions to the best food and drink to sample onshore, as well as more practical advice including berthing information and options for independent exploration, they really are the experts.

‘Before each talk I do extensive research, including checking all the tourist information websites and clarifying what the latest attractions are. In each destination I go on as many tours as possible, sometimes even two or three in a day if we have a long stay. Doing this helps me to gain invaluable knowledge that I can share with guests, including practical information like the amount of walking, or if there are souvenirs to buy,’ explains Sam.

‘The only real way to get to know a port is by visiting it on numerous occasions, taking part in as many shore excursions as possible, talking to the local tourist information office and exploring on foot,’ adds Ruth. ‘I spend a lot of time on excursions with our guests, gauging feedback on the destination.’

Having a favourite port of call must be a tough choice when you spend your days exploring all of the fantastic destinations on offer on a P&O Cruises holiday. ‘I’m often asked what my favourite port is,’ says Sam. ‘It’s a tough one to answer, but I’d have to say New Orleans.’

‘My favourite port of call is Tallinn in Estonia,’ says Ruth. ‘You get the chance to explore a medieval old town, which looks like it belongs in a fairytale.’

Tapping into their knowledge

Our Port Presenters work across the fleet, and you can usually find them at the Shore Excursions desk answering questions, offering advice and taking bookings. On port days, they will often be found on the quayside helping those guests going on tours. On sea days you will find them presenting talks in the theatre or show lounge on board your ship. The timings of each talk are advertised in the ship’s daily newspaper Horizon, which is delivered to your cabin and contains a full list of activities for that day.
