Delightfully remote, deliciously warm - that's the Canaries in April

Sail from Southampton on Oriana, heading for that archipelago of pure adventure, the Azores, then on to the year-round sun of the Canaries. Throw in stops at Madeira and Lisbon, for good measure, and you can see why we call it a Discovery cruise.

Your first call is the largest of the Azores, Ponta Delgada, with a strong Portuguese influence, from its colonial architecture to its food and wines. Next stop, Praia da Vitória, with its volcanic landscapes, vineyards inside lava stone enclosures and age-old laurel forests.

Madeira isn’t called the Garden Island for nothing. Funchal is a riot of colour with its gardens and flower markets. Take the cable car to the top of Monte for panoramic views. On to the Canaries and the ‘fair isle’ of La Palma, where Santa Cruz is a pretty harbour, easily explored on foot. Gran Canaria’s lively capital, Las Palmas, delighted Christopher Columbus in 1492, and the atmospheric cobbled streets and leafy courtyards still charm.

With 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, and excellent beaches, Fuerteventura is the perfect place to top up your tan. Your final call is Lisbon, with great views of this vibrant city as Oriana cruises in along the Tagus River.
