Introducing Arvia - arriving 2022

We are delighted to reveal that the newest member of the P&O Cruises fleet will be called Arvia.

P&O Cruises second LNG-powered Excel class ship, which will join the fleet in December 2022, will go on sale next month. Arvia, meaning “from the seashore” will be the sister ship to Iona and her design will celebrate the stunning views of the ocean and seashore.

Exclusively for Adults ships

All of our ships are fabulous for adults, because we provide plenty of opportunities for tranquil moments whilst children, if they are on board, are being kept fully entertained in their own clubs and activities. And out of school holidays, you will find few children travelling anyway. Having said this, we do reserve a few of our ships exclusively for adults.

First of all, we want to say a big thank you for booking Iona’s Shakedown. You are playing a huge part in helping us ensure she is ready for her maiden cruise.

As we informed you in our recent communications, The COVID-19 restrictions have forced the temporary slowdown of work on Iona by Meyer Werft in Germany. We are working with the team to discuss the impact on Iona's delivery and inaugural period and as a result, we have to postpone Iona’s Shakedown cruise. As soon as we know when we will be able to reschedule we will be in touch with all of the details.

What is a shakedown?

A shakedown is a test of a new product or model, especially a vehicle or ship. 

Your experience on board Iona will not be the usual P&O Cruises experience - although the Shakedown promises to be fun, we’ll be asking you to test Iona to ensure she is Guest ready when she sets sail. 

The Shakedown will also be your opportunity to get to know Iona, giving you the skills to continue exceeding our guest expectations.

What are the new dates for Shakedown?

We are currently working with Meyer Werft in Germany to understand how the COVID-19 restrictions and forced slowdown have impacted Iona’s final outfitting and date of delivery. Therefore, we cannot currently advise anyone of any new dates but when we can, we will communicate this to all guests who have booked to be part of this exciting event.

When will we know more?

We hope to be able to share more information and dates with you over the next few weeks. Please be assured we’re as excited as you are to celebrate Iona’s arrival!

Given the current global crisis, is this the best time to have a shakedown?

Iona is in the final stages of outfitting ready for delivery and her arrival is imminent. Whilst we are looking at how we phase our ships back into service we also need to plan for Iona’s future as part of our fleet.

The shakedown will only happen when we are confident that the health, safety and wellbeing of our people and guests are not at risk.

I can’t attend the new shakedown dates, how do I cancel my booking?

When the new Shakedown dates are confirmed we will contact all guests booked onto the friends and family 2 night operational cruise. If you are unable to attend the new shakedown dates you will be able to cancel your place and request a refund. 

Can I transfer my Shakedown cabin to someone else?

If you or your guests are unable to attend the new shakedown dates you will have the opportunity to transfer your cabin to another name. 

Can I get a refund if I cancel my place?

When new dates are confirmed we will contact all guests to advise them of a 2 week 100% cash refund window should you wish to cancel your place. Please refer to your original booking confirmation for cancellation terms after these dates. 

Will there be medical screening before I’m allowed on board?

Pre-boarding screening will be conducted for all guests, crew and visitors with further medical evaluation if necessary. To complete this screening process, everyone seeking to board will be required to answer a short questionnaire about recent travel and medical symptoms.

How are you managing the risk of COVID-19 on board during shakedown?

The health, safety and wellbeing of our people and guests is of utmost importance to us.

We are conducting pre-boarding screening for everyone boarding during Shakedown – with further evaluation if necessary.

We strongly encourage crew and guests to follow the basic hand hygiene guidance and advice provided by the World Health Organisation and Public Health England:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.

• Where soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

• Avoid close contact with people suffering from cold or flu like symptoms.

• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use a flexed elbow.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

• Avoid unprotected contact with live wild or farm animals.

Am I still guaranteed the same cabin? 

After the cancellation window has closed, any bookings that have not requested refunds or amendments will be transferred on to the new Shakedown dates in the same cabin as originally booked. If you have amended your booking then you may be rebooked into a different cabin of the same type.
