The Black Gold and Diamond Chocolate shore experience

The Caribbean is famed for its glorious sunshine, lush landscapes and tropical climate – the perfect combination for a relaxing holiday and for growing some of the world’s finest spices and cocoa beans. 

In Grenada, chocolate lovers will be treated to an unforgettable experience on the Black Gold and Diamond Chocolate shore experience, learning more about the island’s fascinating trade in spices and cocoa beans. Known as the Spice Island, Grenada is famous for its production of nutmeg (nicknamed Grenadian black gold) and produces 40 per cent of the world’s supply. 

Encounter a world of Nutmeg and Chocolate

At Gouyave Nutmeg Processing Station, you’ll learn more about the world of nutmeg before you move on to the Diamond Cocoa Estate, where the renowned brand Jouvay Chocolate is produced. It’s the island’s first farmer-owned chocolate-making enterprise: the business is a partnership between the Burdick family and Grenada’s cooperative of cocoa growers, whose beans supply the factory.

Experience the chocolate making process

Located in a former distillery built by French monks and surrounded by a tropical garden, the chocolate-making facility is an atmospheric place to learn about different beans, see how chocolate is made and even taste the freshly picked cocoa. At the shop, you’re sure to leave with a bar or two of the boutique chocolate bars to take home – if they make it that far.

For a chocolate odyssey closer to home, historic Bruges is the sweetest of destinations. The medieval jewel boasts magnificent architecture and charming canals but there’s a darker, more decadent side of the city to explore.

As you wander the cobbled streets, you’ll be in no doubt that Belgian chocolate fuels the local economy, with artisan chocolatiers at every turn.

Create your very own delicious Pralines

If you’re feeling inspired, try your hand at crafting you own cocoa creation on the Belgian Chocolate Making and Free Time shore experience. A master chocolatier will teach you about the art of making chocolate and pralines (a Bruges speciality) and oversee your work as you create your own. After your training session, you’re free to explore. Try a rich hot chocolate in a traditional café before heading to Choco-Story – The Chocolate Museum.
