About Olden

The peaceful village of Olden has the perfect Fjordland cruise setting - nestling at the southern end of one branch of the beautiful Nordfjord and at the entrance to the gorgeous Oldedalen Valley.

A lake in the valley has been turned a rich, deep green by the river pouring down the mountains from the vast, million-years-old Briksdal Glacier. Giant waterfalls also cascade down making the views even more spectacular as you travel through the valley to the foot of the glacier - one of the offshoots of the vast Jostedal Glacier now designated as a national park.

Other tours head overland to the inner Nordfjord area with its wind-blown rocks, towering mountains and verdant valleys. Also in the area are folk and glacier museums, a skiing centre on the glacier plateau and northern Europe's deepest lake - Hornindalsvatnet.

Beautiful Stryn

Classic Collection – Enjoy an ever-changing panorama of mountains, lakes and valleys.

The largest glacier in mainland Europe, Jostedal is a vast ice plateau spreading across almost 500km2, with some 50 ‘arms’ reaching out into the neighbouring valleys. Admire the pretty village of Stryn – famous for its summer skiing, where it’s possible to take to the slopes in just a bikini on the warmest days – and the crystal-clear waters of the glacial Stryn Lake before reaching Jostedalsbreen National Park Centre. A short film gives a fascinating insight into the natural and cultural history of the glacier, while the geological park and botanical garden exhibits are well worth a visit.

Essential information

This excursion will operate by coach. There is a limited amount of walking on this tour, some of which is over gravelled ground at the National Park Centre. This tour involves tunnels and is not suitable for those who suffer from a fear of heights or vertigo. The return journey follows the same route back to Olden.

Briksdal Glacier

You’ll pass through stunning scenery of majestic peaks, thundering waterfalls and rushing rivers, before coming face to face with the one of Europe’s most spectacular examples of an ancient glacier. Admire the varied blues and greens of the ice and the serene turquoise waters of the glacial lake at its foot – no photograph can do it justice.

Essential information

This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. The walk to the Glacier is approximately 1½ miles; the first part is quite steep however it becomes flatter in places. Guides will not accompany passengers on the walk up to the glacier; meeting instructions will be provided prior to departing for your walk. Please wear comfortable, enclosed walking shoes and carry a bottle of water and a warm jacket. Please heed the warning signs erected near the Glacier and do not venture beyond the safety barriers. The Glacier is not visible from the refreshment venue. This tour involves tunnels.

Crayfishing by RIB

You’ll then have the chance to fish for the local delicacy, before cooking your catch in a traditional lavvo tent on the banks of Nordfjord. Fjord RIB Adventure

If you feel the need for speed, hop aboard the Nordfjord RIB for a unique and exhilarating ride.

Combine the scenic beauty of Norway's fjord country with the excitement of a thrilling RIB ride as you explore the waters of the Nordfjord.

A short walk will take you to the boat pier, where you’ll be greeted by your Captain. After an orientation and safety briefing, you’ll be kitted out in a survival suit, gloves and glasses.

On boarding your RIB, your Captain will take you out into the fjord and engage in a series of acrobatic manoeuvres to demonstrate the RIB's capabilities before cruising at speeds up to 30 knots over open water. Enjoy the surrounding landscape of steep cliffs, snow-capped peaks and waterfalls as you ride along the inner part of Nordfjord.
