Iona has arrived!

Iona’s naming ceremony: watch the show now

Here it is! We’re so proud and excited to share this film of Iona’s naming ceremony with you. It’s got a bit of everything: stars, music, celebrations and – of course – some spectacular footage of our newest ship as she sailed into her home port of Southampton for the very first time. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store…

Gary Barlow

In an electrifying private set, Gary Barlow performed two iconic Take That hits: ‘Greatest Day’ and ‘Rule The World’. The rousing songs set the mood perfectly and had us in complete raptures. We’ll be watching the video over and over for years to come.

Jo Whiley

Jo Whiley was our host for the evening – introducing our special guests and building the excitement for each performance. It was fantastic to see her interacting with our ‘live’ audience at home too – encouraging them to celebrate for us all to see.

Dame Irene Hays

As a bottle of Alex James’ Britpop sparkling cider smashed on Iona’s bow, Dame Irene Hays officially christened our newest, most innovative ship. We also saw messages of support and congratulations from members of the Hays Travel team.

Captain Wesley Dunlop

When Iona sets sail for her maiden cruise, Captain Wesley Dunlop will be at the helm. It was clearly a proud moment for the highly experienced captain as he introduced Dame Irene Hays and watched her officially name the ship.

P&O Cruises Food Heroes

Our Food Heroes can’t wait to share their personally curated menus of delectable food and delicious drinks on board Iona. During the naming ceremony, we received messages of good luck and congratulations from Olly Smith, Marco Pierre White, Kjartan Skjelde and José Pizarro.

Commonwealth Youth Orchestra and Choir

In a moving performance, the Commonwealth Youth Orchestra and Choir treated us to a unique rendition of ‘Believe’. It was a real honour to witness such an intimate performance from these hugely talented young musicians.

“Iona's arrival into her home port of Southampton today heralds a new beginning and new hope for the cruise industry. We cannot wait to welcome everyone back on board.” - P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow

“What’s not to love about Iona? I love everything about this beautiful ship, and I just cannot wait to show it off to all our guests once they’re able to come on board.” – Captain Wesley Dunlop

“A day full of highlights, a day full of firsts! Hosting a VIP lunch with our godmother Dame Irene Hays – that’s been a real highlight for me.” – Captain Wesley Dunlop
