Globe on a plate

We’re passionate about bringing you the best foodie experiences

It’s often said the best way to get to the heart of a destination is through its food. To truly get a feel for a place, you need to taste it too. At P&O Cruises, we’re passionate about bringing you the best foodie experiences, both on board and on shore.

International flavours at The Cookery Club

The Cookery Club on Britannia offers classes inspired by some of the destinations we visit. You can recreate the distinctive flavours of the Caribbean by learning how to cook jerk chicken with rice and peas, and for dessert, caramelised rum and coconut bananas. Dreaming of dim sum? Learn to make dishes that taste as good as they look – think pork and crab wontons and shiitake mushroom, red onion and black bean puffs. Lovers of Sindhu, meanwhile, can create Indian favourites with perfectly balanced spices and delicate flavours.

With Chef’s Table Dinners at The Cookery Club, our chefs will cook three delicious courses in front of you as you enjoy spectacular sea views from your seat at the Chef’s Table. The menus are inspired by some of our favourite places, such as Spain, with a dinner of tapas, churros and sangria, inspired by Barcelona’s Las Ramblas neighbourhood and La Boqueria Market. Hungry for exotic flavours? Our talented chefs will cook up authentic Thai street food with punchy flavours. Or, recreate the tastes of a trattoria and watch as our chef reveals the secrets behind authentic Italian cuisine.

The Cookery Club classes and Chef’s Table dinners are available for an additional charge. Visit Cruise Personaliser for more details and to book your place in advance.

Six scrumptious on-shore foodie experiences

Indulge your senses on one of these food-focussed shore excursions in appetising destinations around the globe.

Naples City and Pizza

Naples is the birthplace of pizza. The modern version of the Italian staple was invented in the city in 1830 and today, you’ll still find some of the best pizza in the world here. Neapolitan pizza has a particularly unique taste – the authentic version follows strict guidelines on the use of ingredients, kneading method, dough thickness, baking times and oven type. On this tour, you’ll have the opportunity to visit a typical pizzeria, where you’ll be shown the art of pizza making. Watch the pizzaiolo (chef) in action and discover the secrets of cooking the perfect Neapolitan pizza. Following the mouthwatering display, you’ll indulge in a delicious lunch. As part of the tour, you’ll also enjoy a panoramic city drive and a guided walk through the historical centre of Naples.

A Taste of Lisbon

Lisbon has lots to offer by way of foodie treats, and you can taste a number of them on this tour. First stop is the famous Pasteis de Belém – a mainstay on virtually every guide to Lisbon and the traditional home of the delicious pastel de nata, or custard tarts. Your next stop is Cervejaria Trindade, which started out as a convent’s dining area before becoming one of Lisbon’s first beer houses in 1836. Enjoy a refreshing local beer and some typical Portuguese tapas. Your final stop is a traditional pastry shop for Portuguese sweet treats: Casa dos Ovos Moles em Lisboa. Here, you’ll have the chance to sample the popular ovos moles, an irresistible mix of egg yolks and sugar.

Cartagena Tapas Trail

One of Cartagena’s greatest treasures is its colourful cuisine, and on this tour, you can sample it while seeing the city’s sights. Work up an appetite with a leisurely guided walk along the seafront as you head towards the historical Old Town. You’ll see some of Cartagena’s most famous sights, including the Palace Hall, maritime wall and impressive Modernist buildings. Along the way you’ll stop at five local tapas bars. At each venue, the chef will have prepared traditional tapas of the day, which may include albondigas(meatballs), Spanish omelette, local cheeses or jamon for you to sample, accompanied by a glass of sangria, wine or a soft drink. Before heading back to the ship, you’ll stop at the recently restored Roman theatre of Carthago Nova for photos.

Middle Eastern Food Trail

The Middle East boasts a diverse and flavourful cuisine, and cosmopolitan Dubai is the best place to sample it all in one city. First, you’ll dive into a delicious helping of Syrian chickpea falafel and cheese manakish, dough topped with thyme and cheese. Next, an Iraqi restaurant will serve up traditional lentil soup. This is often eaten after breaking the fast during Ramadan and is served with fresh sour lemon juice and crunchy bread flakes. At your next venue you’ll sample a typical Arabic grill plate, accompanied by salad and hot khubz bread. You can also try masgouf, a grilled fish dish from Iraq, and the Yemeni dish mandhi, slow-cooked chicken served over aromatic rice. To round off your tour, you’ll visit a local pastry shop to sample booza ice cream, prepared with pistachios and rose water, and tasty baklava. A cup of Arabic coffee, with a note of cardamom, will finish off an unforgettable gourmet day.

Crayfishing by RIB

For a spectacular time out on the water in Olden, board your RIB and head out into the beautiful Nordfjord on a trip to catch crayfish. Once a seasonal rarity, native crayfish prosper in the cool, clear fjordic waters and are a staple on seafood platters. On this tour, you’ll feel the invigorating Norwegian air in your hair as you speed across the fjord’s glassy green waters, flanked by the dramatic coastline of snow-capped mountains, waterfalls and forests. You’ll then have the chance to fish for the local delicacy before cooking your catch in a traditional lavvo tent on the banks of Nordfjord. Enjoy your feast the local way, served with fresh bread and mayonnaise.

Rum and Chocolate

Indulge your tastebuds on a tour that takes in two of Grenada’s finest creations: rum and chocolate. Your first stop will be the River Antoine Rum Distillery, where rum-making processes haven’t changed much since the estate started producing the drink in 1785. Upon arrival, a guide will take you through the journey of the sugarcane process, and you’ll have the opportunity to sample the Rivers Rum and Rum Punch. Afterwards, you’ll visit the Belmont Estate to learn the process of cocoa production. With an expert guide, you’ll learn about turning, polishing and grinding the cocoa and – the best part – you can sample the rich taste of the end product.
