We catch up with Cabin Steward Alberto Dayola to hear why he takes such pride in helping guests enjoy a fabulous holiday

Cabin Steward Alberto Dayola has worked for P&O Cruises for six years

Alberto Dayola, who hails from Hindang, Leyte in the Philippines, has worked with P&O Cruises as a Cabin Steward for six years. Currently serving on Britannia, the 50-year-old is one of a vast team who look after the cabins and tend to the needs of guests at any time of day or night to ensure the best service possible.

 

‘I look after guests and respond to requests to make sure that their cruise is a relaxing and memorable holiday,’ says Alberto. ‘I give the best service possible by ensuring that my guests’ cabins are kept immaculate and that I fulfil their needs promptly.’

 

No request is too small or big for Alberto, who loves to go the extra mile. He takes great pride in his work and makes it his responsibility to bring personal touches that make the cabins somewhere special for guests. His hard work is recognised on a regular basis when guests fill in the cruise feedback form that highlights the quality of service experienced. Crew who receive particularly high scores are entered into the CRUISE service awards for outstanding work. ‘I am regularly recommended for my good service,’ says Alberto. ‘I am honoured to be a 12-times silver pin runner-up and one gold pin CRUISE winner during my six years of service.’  

 

Although he loves receiving the service awards, Alberto is thrilled that so many guests seek him out. ‘I get recognised a lot and guests who I have previously met even search for me if they are not in my section. They often come to say hello, which makes me really happy. I enjoy my job immensely.’

When not working hard, Alberto enjoys reading, catching up on the news and listening to music in his down time on ship. Having the opportunity to travel the world is exciting, too. ‘I get to see many different places and try different cuisines. I love meeting different people and getting to know them. Of all the ports of call I’ve been to, my favourites are St Maarten and Gran Canaria.’ 

 

And how does a perfectionist like Alberto enjoy working on the P&O Cruises flagship? ‘Britannia’s on-board service is classed as the best in the fleet as we always try to give our guests the wow-factor with all the fantastic facilities she offers. Everything is so well organised and the standards are very high. There is a friendly and happy working atmosphere. Because everything is planned so well, it’s easy for everyone to do their job and give our guests the best holiday experience.’
