Celebrating World Gin Day with Anderson’s Gin

08/06/2017

Cheers to 180 years: introducing Anderson's Gin, a P&O Cruises exclusive blend

In celebration of 180 years of P&O history, P&O Cruises has blended our first-ever gin. Named after P&O co-founder Arthur Anderson and crafted in Edinburgh at Summerhall Distillery, Anderson's Gin is now on board for your delight. Just a single sip will swoop you to far-flung places, fragrant with the heady aromas of Eastern spice, tinged with sharp Mediterranean citrus flavours and a deliciously spicy, dry, lingering finish. It's a must-try gin experience.

To commemorate 180 years of P&O history – and to celebrate World Gin Day on 10 June – we’ve created our first-ever gin, now available on board

Anderson's Gin is a distinctively premium blend, with a story of 'East meets West' as 11 botanicals born from P&O's historical routes have been copper distilled to create a superbly smooth and lightly spiced gin. The botanicals, sourced from all over the world, have been expertly blended to reflect a truly global gin with a distinctive British flair.

Key botanicals include cardamom from India, which gives richness and depth; coriander seeds from Morocco that are jam-packed with a sultry creaminess evident even from the nose; juniper from Italy, which gives the gin a fragrant, pine-led aroma; blood oranges from Malta full of essential oils that jump right out of the glass; and Angelica root from Norway, which binds all the botanicals together for a well-structured and lengthy finish.

The bespoke bottle design was inspired by traditional nautical charts, with a nod to our gin's namesake – if you look carefully, you'll even spot Arthur Anderson's silhouette.

To commemorate World Gin Day on 10 June, we're offering plenty of on-board fun across the fleet with Anderson's Gin. Guests can enjoy tasting flights comprising a selection of our British gins, plus tastings on deck and two new cocktails made with Anderson's Gin: the Anderson's Discovery, combining Aperol, fresh orange juice, honey and Fever-Tree Aromatic Tonic Water and garnished with coriander, or Arthur's Summer Punch with sloe gin, lemon curd and cloudy apple juice. Or, for a simple but exotic sundowner, try the Perfect Serve made with Fever-Tree Tonic Water, a slice of pink grapefruit and cardamom seeds.

Anderson's Gin tasting notes

On the nose: juniper-led, with hints of delicate coriander spice. Fragrant citrus notes from kaffir lime and blood orange.

Beginning: tingling all-encompassing mouth feel peppered with sweet aromatic spice – fennel and star anise sweetness and warming, dominant coriander notes. Ceylon tea leaves and heather provide a subtle floral flourish.

Finish: a dry, lingering finish from the Ceylon tea leaves and angelica root make the perfect base for a gin and tonic.
