Aurora

Aurora, a magnificent mid-sized ship

Aurora is a world-class ship, bringing the joys of classic cruise travel to all.

Following guest feedback, we will be making Aurora exclusively for adults in spring 2019 from cruise R905 onwards. She will remain family-friendly up until her March 2019 refit, giving guests more opportunities to create those unforgettable holiday memories.

Here, we shine the spotlight on Aurora to discover what makes her special and where she’s heading this year.

Aurora at a glance

  • At 76,152 tons and with space for 1,874 guests and 850 crew, Aurora is a mid-sized ship with plenty of personality
  • She offers a wealth of opportunity for indulgence, with a luxurious spa and salon, more than ten places to socialise and enjoy a drink, and a late-night music venue
  • The Crystal Pool boasts a retractable roof for relaxing swims in any weather
  • Aurora is a true world traveller, making calls in the Mediterranean, the Baltic and Norwegian fjords, the Canary Islands, and Canada and the USA.

Something for everyone

Aurora offers so much to do, whatever you’re into. Make the most of your sea days and take part in a plethora of on-board activities including guest speakers, yoga and Pilates, or dance, art and language classes. If you’re the sporting type, head to the sun deck to play basketball, cricket, football and more.

For the ultimate in relaxation, visit the Oasis Spa. Unwind in the sauna and steam rooms, bliss out with a hot stone massage, or treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure ahead of a glamorous night out.

Until spring 2019, Aurora will be a family-friendly ship. Children are well catered for at the children’s club – the place to be for under-18s. The club is split into age-specific groups and run by our enthusiastic Reef rangers, who keep children and teens entertained with a whole host of exciting activities throughout the day and evening, giving them a chance to make friends their own age. There’s also a night nursery for wee ones, meaning mum and dad can enjoy a night out.

Stylish surroundings

Aurora’s incredible Atrium is the heart of the ship. Designed in a classic galleried style, it spans four decks and is dominated by a 35-foot sculpture by artist John Mills, which provides an impressive backdrop to the elegant double main staircase. A veil of water surrounds the two mythical figures cast in resin.

In the inviting Crystal Pool, you can enjoy a stylish environment whatever the weather thanks to the clear glass Skydome overhead, which keeps out the chilly breezes while letting the warm sunshine in. The pool has two adjoining hot tubs, as well as a bar.

At 105 feet above the waterline, The Crow’s Nest cocktail bar offers the best views on the ship. By day, sit back and watch the scenery float by. At night, the bar comes into its own: grab a cocktail and look back on the day’s events as the sun goes down.

Delectable dining

Guests are spoilt for choice on Aurora with two main restaurants, as well as three Select Dining venues: Sindhu, where Indian cuisine is showcased in spectacular style; The Glass House, a wine bar and restaurant created in partnership with award-winning wine guru Olly Smith; and The Beach House, which offers fun and informal dining alongside ocean views.

There are also a number of casual dining options, from the delectable snacks at Anderson’s bar to the sheer variety on offer at the Horizon buffet. Feeling peckish by the pool? Grab a snack from Lido Grill, or indulge in a tub of Jude’s ice cream.

Endless entertainment

When it comes to entertainment, there’s never a dull moment on Aurora. At the lavish 652-seat Curzon Theatre, you can enjoy cabaret performances, stand-up comedy, interactive game shows, quizzes and talent shows. The Playhouse Cinema screens feature films throughout the day and into the evening and also acts as the venue for classical recitals, lectures, port enhancement talks and much more. Carmen’s show lounge features spectacular cabaret performances, fun quiz shows, tribute acts, family shows and glittering discos.

Children can expect a bumper programme of their own dedicated events. There are fully supervised discos, karaoke, or for something a little more chilled, they can sink into a beanbag and watch a movie.

A world of destinations

Aurora offers a full schedule of port calls in fabulous destinations all over the globe. Throughout the year, she soaks up the sun in Mediterranean gems such as Italy, Spain, Croatia and Greece, as well as the Canary Islands and Portugal. This month, she’s on a sunny tour of Portugal, the Caribbean and the Azores, where she’ll visit ports such as Madeira, St Kitts, Martinique and Praia da Vitória.

She also sails to spots a little closer to home, such as Belgium, Guernsey and the Netherlands. Her three-night Short Break to Bruges and St Peter Port in May is the perfect introduction to cruising.

Aurora spends part of the year visiting a number of exciting northern destinations, including the Baltic, Scandinavia and Russia, and the Norwegian fjords. A 14-night cruise in August and September visits ports such as Helsinki, St Petersburg and Tallinn, while a 12-night Norway and Northern Lights cruise in November and December gives you the chance to see the aurora borealis in all its glory.

In autumn, Aurora crosses the Atlantic to visit the USA and Canada. From the bright lights of New York City to the colourful foliage of Quebec City, this cruise offers culture and natural beauty in equal measure.

In January next year, Aurora will set sail on an epic adventure to the Amazon, Caribbean and Central America. This 55-night odyssey is the perfect way to beat the winter blues, taking in 23 sunny ports including St Vincent, Barbados, Belize and Cozumel.
