Located along the Arabian Sea, the main port Mormugao is tucked down in the Southern district. Away from the hippie party strip of the north, and a short drive from the busy port, you'll find a much quieter, more serene scene. With less development here, you can spread out and enjoy miles of blissful palm-fringed sand with gentle sound of lapping azure water. Inland, catch a glimpse of the real Goa, where farmers work the same fields and orchards that their families have tended for centuries. The influence of the Portuguese from colonial times is still clear to see. See the meticulously kept mansions and admire the spectacular rococo and baroque churches which gleam whitewashed amid emerald paddy fields.
