Head into the Curaçao countryside, passing salt flats and flamingoes on your way to the Hato Caves. See fascinating paintings and carvings left behind by the earliest settlers, the Arawaks, some 1,500 years ago, and the shapes formed by the dramatic stalagmites and stalactites, including the Pirate's Head and Sea Tortoise. Discover what 19th-century island life was like at the Curaçao Museum, which also houses a contemporary art exhibition and a carillon with 47 bells. Cross the Queen Juliana Bridge for wonderful views over Willemstad, and stop off at the Chobolobo distillery for a taste of the colourful local liqueur.
