Denmark's most northerly town, Skagen, is proud and pretty. The charming fishermen's houses are painted a warm yellow with white trim and red roofs, and their gardens are beautifully tended. More curious attractions include the Buried Church, an old chapel that's been consumed by the dunes to the point where the tower is all that's visible. Other visual treats are in store at the Skagens Museum, where works by the 19th-century Skagen painters, who were inspired by the French Impressionists, are exhibited. Don’t miss a trip on the ‘Sandormen’, a tractor-driven bus that takes you to the northernmost tip of the European continent.
