Leisurely Ålesund
The largest town on Norway's northwest coast, Ålesund is built on several islands stretching out into the ocean.
A large part of the town, comprising wooden structures, was destroyed by a fire in 1904 and then rebuilt in Art Nouveau style that was typical of the time.
Your journey gives you a flavour of those features in the town and harbour area, before heading through the suburbs up to the Mount Aksla viewpoint. Admire the panorama of the ocean and surrounding archipelago in one direction and the beautiful Borgund fjord and the snow-capped peaks beyond it in the other.
