Your first scheduled stop is at one of Norway’s most modern sights, the Northern Lights Cathedral, which was inaugurated in February 2013 and was constructed to represent the natural phenomena of the Aurora Borealis. Have your camera ready to photograph this unusual spiral shaped structure which is created from platina plates that are designed to deflect and reflect the light.
Next, you’ll travel to the oldest sight in the city, Alta Church. This quaint structure is the only building that managed to survive after the entire city was burnt down by the Germans, at the end of the Second World War.
Passing the scenic fjord and Altagård (a reconstructed building of historic importance which once served as a school, a hospital and as army headquarters) your journey continues across the picturesque Alta River and past the small mountain of Lille Raipas, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Finally, before you return to the port, a photo stop will be made at Skaialuft, from where the well-known Alta slate is shipped to the rest of the world.
