Boazo Sámi Siida is a settlement that’s been converted into a museum illustrating Sámi customs. Welcomed by traditionally dressed Sámi hosts, here you can see their reindeer and step into a ‘Lavvu’, where examples of different Sámi costumes (Kofta), equipment and utensils will be on display. Enjoy refreshments of tea or coffee and cake before your next stop.
Moving on to the Husky Centre, you’ll have a brief chance to meet the friendly Huskies, and learn how they’re prepared for Europe’s longest dog race.
Pæskatun is a slate quarry in the mountainside of the Alta valley, where you can visit a workshop and watch a slate cutting demonstration, spend time in the little museum, to see how people used to live and enjoy an informative presentation about the famous Northern Lights.
Continue to the interesting Alta Museum, which has exhibitions depicting the ancient Komsa Culture, the old Market Place in Bossekop, the Northern Lights, military and local history along with a collection of Sámi costumes and household implements.
Finally a brief stop will be made to photograph the unusual spiral structure of the Northern Lights Cathedral.
